Turquoise/Native American jewelry

This piece was purchased out of pawn at the Cross Canyon Trading Post in the early 1960s. Likely woven c.1930.

Beautiful Alan! Why is it on the floor?

Before we had a safe my wife had stashed jewelry all over the house in “safe places”. Unfortunately she sometimes forgets where. Today she was looking for something else and rediscovered these pieces that belonged to her step-dad.

This Zuni bolo was from back in the legal tortoise era (early 1970s) with mother-of-pearl. No hallmark.

This Navajo ring is from the same time. The hallmark is a mystery to me.

There was also a tie-tack and a small Zippo lighter.

Ha! I originally thought I would hang it, but after putting it on the floor to vacuum I decided to leave it. The rug has good weight and condition and is clearly intended as a floor covering. It's upstairs in a room that only sees slippers. Should be as happy there as hanging, I think.
That's a brilliant rug, Alan! And, yes, it was woven to be a floor covering. My wife and I have now spent enough time in Taos and Santa Fe buying jewelry and admiring rugs that she's taken up weaving.......talk about a space intensive hobby! Incidentally, I'm the fellow that accosted you in Bob Hope airport a couple of years ago-hats and looms are both damaging to downsizing plans.

Thanks for the note and reminding me of that quick hello in Burbank. My wife gave me a great Fedora Lounge eye roll which is lovingly reserved for those rendezvous with my hat friends. And yes, these collections and hobbies are going to make retirement into a tiny house very difficult.

As a matter of fact hanging a rug is the worst thing you can do.Moths will get them.Walking on the rug makes the weave get tighter.Thats a nice Ganado.

A recent find which stretches the topic for this forum... this "birdstone" came from a collection in Ohio. These are thought to be relics from the archaic to woodland period in Native American history. There are two pairs of holes drilled front and aft, perhaps an attachment method for use attaching to an atlatl or throwing spear. There is no guarantee that this is a true ancient artifact. Many reproductions have been sold and confirming the authenticity is difficult. This one is very spare in figurative detail and has an abstract simplicity that appealed to me. It is five inches in length. I made the stand over the weekend from a piece of olive wood and a drawer pull so I can display it with my small collection of meteorites.
