Caps aren't my thing, but I believe this might be an "Ivy" cap, also known as a "flat" cap. According to Delmonico Hatter, "Ivy caps, also referred to as Flat Caps, are constructed with a single panel of fabric on the top." Not a lot to go on, I know. But maybe it's a start...

SO, my question.....is there a DEDICATED thread to the Stetson 3X and all it's history and incarnations here on the Lounge? If so, I cannot seem to find one. And IF NOT, what do you think we (vintage) 3X owners should perhaps start one??????????

The bartenders have merged several of the threads I started. Just put in your due diligence and don’t worry if they get merged. They don’t delete what you did, only merge them.

I understand they were not deleted. I know how these things work. It’s just that I looked over the faqs but never saw mention of the importance of not starting a new thread for most things. At other fora I frequent, new threads are preferred over reawakening zombie threads. Live and learn.

Yeah, not a big deal. Particularly as going forward I will just not ever post on any topic where there is not an immediately identifiable existing applicable thread for it. Too much trouble to search around trying to figure out what past recent or zombie thread I should use for the new post. Learned my lesson, so will only post in existing threads from now on. Too bad, as I had some new topics I had wanted to raise. But again, not a big deal. I’ll just lurk and read mostly.

It’s not a problem starting a new thread if there isn’t one close to it already in existence. Even if it does get merged what’s the big deal? If you have a new topic of general interest, as opposed to your specific question for yourself, then please do start a new thread. No one is upset or ordering you not to do it.

If you post to an old thread it’s a great way to bring back information that we’ve possibly forgotten about, or for those of us who haven’t been here for a decade stuff we’ve never seen. Since most of the information here is on vintage hats it’s not as if the old threads are not relevant. People resurrecting old threads has exposed me to some great old post...a shame that so many of the old photos no longer work. Don’t sweat it and don’t overthink it. Keep posting and contributing and you’ll figure out the Lounge’s flow.

I’ve reworked a few brims by hand with moderate success, not that it’s rocket science, but most things take time to master. Most came out quite nice but I’ve got one felt and one Panama that need some more work after initial attempts. Fun to learn as I go. Still I know there are usually “tips and tricks” for greater success. So I’ve read up and watched videos etc, but haven’t seen any specific advice/info on achieving a nice flat brim. I’ve left hats to dry on their crown, but for for flat brims after steaming/shaping, set to dry with brim down on clean flat surface? Put something on top of brim? Any tips/tricks to share specific to fixing fur felt flat brims?
