This arrived today. I wanted a vented straw with a patriotic ribbon treatment. The ribbon is red, white, blue, with a bit of tan and gold. But I think it works fine. I got the idea from a hat I saw worn by @RJR.

I do have one problem. I have found out after 31 years of marriage that I married a thief. My wife has laid claim to this hat. She says the fretwork looks like lace and therefore it's a lady's hat i.e. hers. I assured her that I am secure in my masculinity and will have no problem wearing this. Then she started in with the "finders keepers" and "procession is nine tenths of the law" etc. I LOST MY HAT!

Great looking semi-calado, and patriotic, too!

My wife let me wear my/her newest Art Fawcett to services this morning. Needless to say I received a lot of compliments.

Growing up in the 50's / 60's I never saw my grandfather without a gray fedora with a black band (wish I knew the brand), most of the time he wore dress pants, pressed shirts, suspenders, and a suit coat. I frequently played with and wore his fedoras. I now have my own small collection of hats / fedoras and hope to continue the tradition, albeit without suspenders. I recently obtained my first VS felt, a pecan beauty that is just amazing. Thanks Art for your works of "Art". Living it Texas for the last 20+ years I can also appreciate a good "Cowboy" hat as well. In Texas, a custom made pure beaver hat (western weight) sells for $900 plus, I really don't know why they are so expensive compared to wonderful hats such as Arts. Most of the western custom hats I see are stiff and heavy and many do not show the same level of workmanship as a good VS hat. One of our local custom hat makers tells me he is backed up over 8 months in orders for "Western Hats".

I can’t recall seeing a VS western, but lots of the fedora hatters are also capable of making you a western. They can be made with softer hat bodies, but most of the bodies made big enough for westerns have a lot of “shellac” so proceed with caution if you want a softer western. This is the VS thread so I’m not mentioning other hatters but if you look around here you’ll find them. You might also ask Art if he’d make you one or if he can recommend another shop.

I think it's just the market. There are some crazy cowboys (and wannabes) that will spend some crazy $$$ on a hat. Throw in a nice band with a shiny buckle and Katy bar the door.

I too have never sen a VS Western. If anybody has a pic...
