I just watched "Wife vs. Secretary" from 1936 with Clark Gable, Myrna Loy and Jean Harlow. The movie could have ditched the drama and been a better comedy but the Cedric Gibbons deco sets were eye-popping.

While Gable has always been impeccably dressed, I noticed he wears about 5 different hats in the movie. It made me recall that in most of Gable's movies, he wears a hat of some sort. Cary Grant wore hats occasionally and almost always like a prop. Gable, however, pulls them off with aplomb.

I saw this last week also. The sets were fantastic! Gable's suits were to die for as usual. I kept pausing it to look at details!

lol I did too! I re-watched it, fast forwarding past all the parts without Gable or that did not take place in their swanky pad or his boss office.

The silent movie, The Smart Set, aired that same night, and also featured great Gibbons sets.

I don't know about Gable's hat but I adore that other one!

...here with Carole Lombard before she was killed on the airplane crash, he never got over it poor Clark.... but back to his hats, i like that one a lot!

Funny, when I picture Gable in my mind he has no hat. I just never perceived him with a hat. Edward G. Robinson and Hunphery Bogart come to mind in hats for me.:eusa_doh:

Me too. That's why when I watched "Wife vs. Secretary," I thought "what a great thread for the the Lounge." If you watch any of Gable's movies, he almost always wear hats from fedoras to military hats. It didn't hit me until I started being envious of a hat he had on in that movie.
