Hawaiian shirts and fedoras

The blue shirt above has a sibling, it's a great colour that lends itself to almost any hat, felt or straw.

My shirts are, to say the least, quite expensive. By the time you add the paper pattern, material, lining, buttons, thread and other notions, you could have bought a couple of off the peg shirts for a similar amount. Add Tina's labour and the cost goes into the stratosphere. Sorry if that come across as boastful but the point I'm making is that I do look after these wonderfully crafted shirts. To that end I wear a matching colour T shirt in order to reduce the fade caused by sweat and constant washing. Some of the T shirts had to be dyed so as to do justice to the shirt and it's colour. It makes me smile when I've heard, (on a number of occasions,) that others would be happy with just the T shirts.

Today, complete with red T shirt underneath, we are waxing down our surf boards. It's surf boards and Woodies, that's because a good friend of our's has a Woody and he's aching to get this shirt off my back. Ha! Some hope. The straw is one of Esther's finest.

Sir Alec Issigonis is known world wide as the designer who came up with the original Mini. But did you know that he also designed one of Britain's most iconic cars? The Morris Minor. Issigonis took the format that VW had put into The Beetle, then he styled it, and although everyone thinks that the style is quintessentially British, not so. Sir Alec was inspired on a visit to Uncle Sam, by the way that Packard designed their fenders, what we Brits call, the wings of a car. He noticed how the bulbous fairing came through the fender into the door, he used this idea to great effect with the Morris Minor, the car sold in excess of one million models.
Here's an example of a Morris Minor Traveller, the quintessential British woody, and the one that my friend owns.

Dream car. I almost bought one in the early 1980s. As I remember it had a 1275cc Sprite engine in it.

Current Stetson Stratoliner Special Edition Hemp with a Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirt. I was at the Mechanised Warfare Museum's WWII Weekend in Deerfield, NH, USA. Lots and lots of reenactors as well as the museum vehicles and personnel. I was approached by at least four young women and several men in period garb to complement me on the hat and shirt. Altho the shirt complements turned into laughs once they got close enough to recognize Mickey Mouse. [emoji6]

You've got to love that shirt, Mickey Mouse doing a Joe Cool in his shades. In our bedroom there's a framed photo of my wife, taken on a trip to Disney, Orlando, giving Mickey a kiss on his cheek. It was taken back in the days of analogue film, and I have no idea how to transfer it to digital, I'll find out one day.
Another floral favourite today, and another fabulous sunny day: This weather calls for Aloha shirts.

When I posted this shirt previously it provoked much response, there seems to be something of an MG cult among some Loungers. If you haven't seen it the story is, that my wife, Tina, spotted the material somewhere or other and the germ of an idea was born. She made the shirt to the same pattern that she makes my Aloha shirts to, she then found in the MG catalogue, MG lapel pins. These she skillfully turned into buttons by snapping the pin at the back of the badge, leaving just enough to fix a stud to. Then she sewed all the buttons onto the shirt and finally she sewed a strip of material over the back of the buttons so the all her work is hidden and you wouldn't know that the buttons were once lapel pins. Clever girl.

That's a cool hat, a cool shirt and a cool date. Some think it boring to dine out with your beloved, not me, my missus is an entertainment in the way she watches people, then gives me a running commentary. The shirt's new(ish) but the pattern that it's made from is distinctly, 1930's. Esther made the hat and we too are going to dine out, I've found a chocolate box looking restaurant not far from where we live. We will go there in our old MG.

This shirt, although not as eye catching as some that I have, was made as the perfect foil for the baggy trousers (22" hems,)that my missus also made. And just for good measure, she made her outfit too. So given her talent I can't say too much about her not sporting a fedora.

We went out for lunch to Newks and then drove over to Vulcan Park. Dad and his brother and one of my cousins say in the air conditioned car while my other cousin and I walked up to and around the monument. Due to the others waiting, we didn't climb the tower, but we went up to it and walked around and enjoyed the scenery. Beautiful day for it!

Glad to hear things are going well on your visit. A shame you didn't make it to the top, the view is pretty spectacular, although it's certainly not second rate from there in the park.

I've never eaten at the Newk's, even though I work nearby and pass the place nearly every day. Hope y'all enjoyed it.

Poor Vulcan, he will never be a match for the, oh so gorgeous Venus.

When I came round from my operation, a while back, the nurse explained that I needed to have all the antiseptic swab washed off my body. She let me do the crown jewels, but then, as I turned around, she washed me straight between my buttocks, saying: "I'll do the credit card swipe!"

Today I got roped into a serious bout of retail therapy. Let me tell you now, I hate shopping, I hate it with a vengeance. Knowing this, my missus usually ensconces me in the store's coffee shop whilst she embarks on single handedly rescuing The British Economy.
It might have been the warmth of the store, it might have been the lack of sleep last night, it couldn't possibly have been the number of glasses of wine that I had previously quaffed. As Kermit famously said: "It's not easy being green."
