Sorry for your loss. They are family and our lives are truly enriched by theirs.

Greetings All:
Feeling alittle serendipitous looking at my girl Faith and realizing what a blessing she has been in my life. I was remembering how totally regal she looked when i picked her up at the airport having flown across the country from the Pacific NW to the SE.
She was in better shape then me.
Have a look. Then and now.
Be well. Bowen

What a brilliant name, what a fabulous dog. We open our homes and our hearts to our pets. We love cherish and enjoy their company and saying farewell hangs heavy. But it's that love that tells us what we must do, no matter how painful it is for us. True animal lovers will never let a pet suffer, doesn't make it any easier though.
We said farewell to our first cocker spaniel over forty years ago. Her photo portrait is a framed reminder and her dog tag is on my wife's car key ring. We have had four spaniels since then and said farewell to all of them. Their photos and dog tags are retained in the same way.
Bob, I know how heavy your loss is, and it's not trivial just because it's a loved pet. My condolences.

What a beauty! Dogs really do enrich our lives, they show us what love and loyalty look like.

For the first 2 yrs after he passed I said to myself no more dogs. When I changed my mind it took me most of another yr to select a breeder & a breeding pair. I put down a deposit & had 3rd pick of the litter. I still occasionally look & follow websites on some of the breeders I studied.

I did the first two males that I had. I haven't hunted this female because I'm getting too damn old. We go to the woods all the time though, & she has been riding in a canoe since she was 6-7 months old. They're good swimmers will fully webbed digits on their paws.

At ~2-1/2 yrs.

Catahoula's are herders & they herd from the front by turning the cow or feral hog instead of nipping at the hocks from behind. She runs cows, & has had the opportunity to round up freerange chickens & put them in the coop for the night a few times. They come by that naturally.

When she was just over a yr old I took her up in the woods in an area where I have found some of that Quartzite before. Our first frost had killed all the weeds & most of the leaves were down; she was off leash. There are many wild volunteer spruce trees in that area. The spruce typically have dead leaves blown in & gathered up underneath their lower limbs. My dog went up underneath one & I couldn't call her out from underneath it for nothing! So I finally got down on all fours & crawled up under there with her to see what she was doing. When I swept away some leaves under this spruce tree at the base was a small gravestone from 1777, broken in half with the top still laying in the leaves! I wrote the info from it down, then covered it back up with the leaves. The next day I called the county historical society. They had no record of the grave but the name matches the landowners from a 1760's Atlas. I went back with some Gorilla Glue & glued the top of the stone back in place, then covered it up with leaves again.

It's still there. Whenever we go up in there now, almost 5 yrs later, my dog will always find that spruce tree.
