I hear you ! Personally I buy and sell on Australian Gumtree all the time and you sorta get a "feel" and this "feels" OK to me.

If it was a 44" I think I would be posting in the "what jackets have you got coming" thread

On Gumtree you can like ebay look at the other items for sale. Quirky but likely legitimate ! He has several other old jackets most likely sourced from thrift/charity shops or house clearances etc etc

Also remember there is much less demand here in Oz for this type of jacket.

When demand is low you can’t ask for a high price...plus I think the whole Quebec thing would scare a lot of Aussies off from wearing it. We are a weird lot.
