Sheesh. Snow already? Move to Mexico City. Last time it snowed here I was nine years old. Big event, nobody went to work. It had all melted by 10.30 am. I remember I was shocked to learn that a snowball impact to the face actually hurts, and so did my little brother, to his cost. [emoji3] It looked so fun in the movies.

Good question. As it’s all arbitrary, I think it’s more about how you wear it. As derbys/bowlers and the like we’re common “western” hats too there really can’t be a definitive answer.

Thanks Moe. The coat is a Zero King. So it was made in West St Paul, Mn. I'm guessing early 50s manufacture. Wool gabardine with alpaca pile lining and mouton collar. Your homburg today was really magnificent. Monster hat.

Thank you Stefan. Knudsen is a custom maker in San Francisco. I believe they make mostly westerns. This one was make in '91 according to a label under the sweat. The felt is amazingly soft but keeps its shape.

My first Royal Stetson, and part of the inspiration for my Natural/Slate custom from Michael Gannon, I don't think I'll ever let it go.

Paired with a moss green fleece jacket, the taupe felt shows off it's compatibility with a wide range of colors. Pleasing to the eye where the silverbelly/old copper I picked out originally this morning just didn't work for me.

It's easy to see why this is a favorite Doug. It's a beauty.

Danku wel Stefan. Brim is 5 cm. It is a really nice felt, both in colour and hand. If the brim were a little bigger, I might live in that hat .

This hat was made in Monza a few years ago by S.C.M. Let's say thirty, maybe more

Marked "Superiore" like others in my collection, it has the following indications in the inside sweatband "Qualità superiore pesco" "Colore :Blu" On the sweatband "Lepre Garantita"

The felt is of a deep blue and the surface has a "peachy" touch

The dimensions are generous with the crown of medium height

Finished in an exemplary manner is a product of the high quality Monza hats

I like blue hats and this one has a very "special shade of blue

For whatever reason, I often gravitate towards this Pilgrim when fowl weather is coming.

Today it joins me as I await tropical storm Michael.

Happy Thursday.

Mike, the tropical storm, also has me thinking about the odyssey of Mike the headless chicken. Such a grand, hopeful story of transcending a somewhat difficult loss and the indomitable spirit of one Colorado chicken.

I would say 3.25". But then again I like to cut a 4" cowboy brim down to 2.50"-2.75" and I still call them western hats.

Hey, I've read that Pilgrims are a mix of hare and rabbit. I bought a hat with such a mix, and to me the felt was a little rough and did not want to obey instructions.
How is a Pilgrim's felt? I have been thinking of buying one, just to know I have one. Are they worth it? Wouldn't a hare/rabbit mix felt get wonky if it got wet?

Here is a Homburg with 2.75" brim and Cattleman Crease. I tried to put a Cattleman Crease in one of my Homburg's but the crown was too short. It has to have a tall crown to start with.
