I certainly didn’t take offense at your or any comments from people who don’t like A-2s.
I like my A-2 of course, but yeah I see some shockers of all jacket styles around here. Dreadful fits and dodgy choices all over the place.
I like the A2 design in general... but dont like the look most folks have wearing them ... i was considering eastman slim A2... but the pit to pit that would best fit me... the shoulder is 17.5 or something... like a full 1 or 1.5" too small...
Unless i custom order... and considering the design in general... i dont think i would be happy with the fit with whatever A2 jacket i would receive.
So... cross zip it is on next one!!

this jacket fits you fine. Trust me. You pass this one on and get a smaller size you will be kicking yourself 6-12 months from then. These jackets will shrink a bit. I have an ELC size 40 that now fits more like a 36-38 on me. I like the looser feeling than a tight jacket at first which will only shrink a bit with use and sweat and sun. But I guess its up to your preferences.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback. I sold the jacket to a Spanish gentleman who I hope will enjoy it very much. I may try another A2 at some point in the future, but this one wasn't for me. Anyway, the main reason I got it was because it fit my measurements and was for a good price, and I wanted to see how it looked. Because of the price I knew I could resell it without losing too much. This is all part of my "get my hands of lots of leather without breaking the bank" plan.

I believe this is a G-1 but this is Gav's take on the style:
The mouton collar really helps the pattern imho but I think what's pictured here is exactly how this style should fit.

I know this is on a mannequin but I feel like if an A2 jacket could fit like this on me, I'd be pretty happy. There's some room but you can somehow tell it's not filled by blub. Also not too. Tight where it looks like a completely different kind of jacket though. Not sure what the art of that is.
The G-1 is a much more flattering design overall by a long shot. Unless you go Eastman Slender most of the A-2 look way too baggy making you look overweight even when you're skinny.
It is exaggerated by the fact that people wear these with slim trousers when pilots wore them with wide leg dress trousers with a crease on them.

As for A-2s not being flattering, I'd beg to differ. They are just not good at making someone not so good looking seem to be in a better shape than he really is, unlike some other jacket styles. If you want to go trim, I can recommend the Star Sportswear contract, which has almost the same measurements as ELC's slender A-2.

The main difference is that the Navy G-1 and it predecessor the M-422a have bi-swing backs and underarm gussets that provide a lot more room for shoulder/arm movement than the unforgiving, cut-like-a-shirt A-2. The also have lined buttoned rather than unlined snapped pockets, the windflap is behind the zip rather than in front, and there's an inner pocket. And they were always made of goatskin, never horsehide, and always had synthetic linings, never cotton.
I'm not convinced that either kind of jacket is actually more flattering, they're both undisputed classics. I've got a couple of A-2s and an M-422a, and I wear them all. The fur collar makes the G-1/M-422a just a hair warmer than the A-2, so I wear mine a bit more into and out of the winter than the A-2s.
