He still comes online and posts once in awhile, but not as active as he once was. He sold off the vast majority of his relatively large collection of vintage and custom lids, only keeping about 10? to wear in a regular rotation.
Mine has been posted upthread somewhere but it's based on the Highwayman. 3" bound edge brim x 5-1/2" open crown, all natural beaver. 13/16" ribbon in Commando with matching 3/8" binding. Styled after the early Western dress hats, the style has become one of my favorites.
I have to agree with his reasoning, but what ya gonna do? And if you check stock he's not the only one.

My natural has a "slate" ribbon that is kind of a plum/raspberry color with shades of grey/charcoal that appear depending on the angle of the light hitting it. The brim binding is called Belgian. Don't know if this is leaning too close to purple for you or not, but it goes with all kinds of browns, greys and blues; a very versatile arrangement.

It took Michael a little while to find a dress-weight body to accommodate my request for a 3" brim and 5" as-creased crown, but he kept me in mind and finally came up with a body that would work. The hat was worth the wait! Great fit, very comfortable, and exactly as I specified. Needless to say, I am very pleased with this hat. Michael is a great guy to deal with and does fine work.

Great hat. Your pics capture the color shift of the whiskey felt pretty well, too--from the bright, sort of caramel-brown, to darker, to olive. My whiskey Gannon shifts in a similar way.
