The current catalog says the crown height on the Cavalry is 4 1/4" but this one is closer to 4" (the to 'valley' of the front crease, not the maximal height), 3" brim. Anyway, posting because I'm pretty sure this is the same pre-creased block that they'd be using on the West Bound B, tapered center dent with no pinch. Pardon the millenial mirror selfie.

I like the lower crown, more akin to the Boss of the Plains profile than say, the high Rancher's crease hats from the 50's and 60's.

Very cool, Jared. I prefer more crown, but it certainly looks well-balanced on your head. The West Bound B, with even more brim, I think could use a higher crown, but you’re right that these do have that Boss of the Plains vibe. Maybe I just need to see it in the wild? I’m looking forward to seeing Jonesy’s hat.

The Junior Cowboy arrived.

Interesting hat. The weight and hand of the felt actually remind me very much of Hatco's current Royal Deluxe (which is to say, feels kinda like my premier Strat). This hat takes a dry crease quite easily (moreso than the modern, for sure) but there is a tiny bit of spidering on the front pinch making me suspect this was on the lower echelon of felt qualities.

I undid the very aloof crease in it because the jaunty diamond was forcing the crown out too wide for me to wear. Going with this mini-Gus for now. The brim stiffened up when steamed. I think the partial brim curls may have been done in store (clean and even curl that looks like a proper tool was used as opposed to hand curling) but I don't really know how the hat would have been originally configured. Looks like the label indicates a 51 block. 5 1/2 open crown, 3" brim.

Great find! Someone here has a Junior Cowboy. Being a block 51 with the dimensions it has & the bound edge brim my guess is it would have been shaped like an early OR.

Very nice hat.

Thanks DD. I like the original style crease when I flatten the brim down some. Makes the crown look taller. Palomino does have a nice light Sage undertone in some lighting conditions. My Churchill "40" is also Palomino but I haven't really noticed the Sage undertone with it; maybe just haven't had it in the right kind of light to notice.

I have a 4X skinny ribbon from the same era with the early stenciled Last Drop liner. No color tag but it is more of a wheat color. Haven't done anything with it yet.

I was thinking it was either you or Michael R who had the Junior Cowboy?

Thanks, gents. The brim did want to go back into that curl fro m the more Hollywood brim of the auction photos, but the off-center dip remains. Very friendly proportions on this one.

Jared , Every Hat I have that came from OK has the off center Brim Roll/Curl like Merl Haggard always wore . Looks great .
