Aero's Gold Stitching - Anyone Seen It?

I need to pick a thread color for a new jacket. The leather is dark brown (the battered steerhide), and I'm considering contrast stitching. Was going to go with cream, but that might be too much contrast.

Carrie @ Thurston said they have a gold thread, but they haven't seen it done on a whole jacket yet. Anyone seen the gold stitching Aero now offers? Any pics, especially with the gold stitching done on a jacket?

I have not seen the gold on anything either. I suggest you be the first to charge ahead into the great unknown of gold stitching and report back with lots of photos. In all honesty though this is interesting. Did Carrie send you any photos of the gold thread you can share with us?

Not on an Aero, but I have a black Langlitz Columbia, which has a dark yellow stitching that I think could be described as "gold". I think it looks fantastic, and it is subtle. Goes really well with the brass hardware.

The gold looks nice, but will it be too bright? The rust might be a better choice (and rust knits?).

Yes, Carrie sent me a pic of the thread - the gold is on the top, rust is on the bottom. The knits are caramel, just to provide some context for the colors.

I should also add that this is for a Type 3 trucker. So LOTS of stitching.

I’ve seen cream stitching on black, which has a certain country and western feel to it. Looks good, but I fear I might tire of it.

I think it would look amazing with a black jacket, not sure about the battered steer. Although those seem to come out slightly differently every batch I assume as part of the battered process. It could work.

Contrast stitching works well when it isn't too bright- I've seen dull orange stitching on seal brown steer hide (great), olive stitching on seal goat and asked about brown stitching on black horsehide (I finally just went with black) - if it's too bright, you might look like a tailor's half-finished the jacket.

i bought a type iii brown vicenza with rust contrast stitching from thurston a while back. carrie should have the pics. i sold the jacket. even the rust reaaaally stood out. id caution you on even that.

I gots olive stitching on my black A2.....quite subtle.....matches the olive knits and olive drill lining. Gold might be less subtle.......

It’s like painting a room. The bolder the color the less surface it looks good on. For a type 3 i agree with the consensus to tone it down....unlesss you like brash, nothing wrong with that.

Is gold what they used on the Aero Type III / 557?

If that is the gold, ther's a good idea of how it will contrast...

Yes, I'm a fan of that. My Aero A2 goat (bought used) has olive thread on a seal goat hide, and it looks superb. One of those details that somehow you don't notice until you notice it, but then when you do, it really pops.

It reminds me of a lot of eighties punks I knew who painted all the edgings of their Perfecto style jackets white - though a more subtle version, of course. My main concern with too light a thread would be that it might show dirt. That said, I always loved the contrast thread back in the days when I wore DMs, how it started out orange but after a few months of being exposed to black boot polish went a very distinctive canary yellow...

I wanted subtle contrast, so I went with Olive Drag stitching on my TB Aero Seven in Dark Seal Horsehide.
