Poll: Favourite Style of jacket

I would pick a centre zipped collared jacket a la HWM (a bit slimmer maybe) if it was available. I find it the most versatile style as it can be dressed up or down and it also looks timeless.

Voted A-2. Maybe not sexy like a cross-zip (my next choice) but full of enough history and different contracts to keep one busy for a while.

Originally I had other styles but it started to get ridiculous, A1's, N-1, Nylon Flight Jacket (which I really should have included...damn) Straight Zip no Half -Belt, Luftwaffe, Straight button front, Diagonal button front, Shawl collar, Trucker, Sherpa .....maybe I needed a poll on what to include in the poll lol

The results speak volumes about the evolution of this forum. In years past, the A2 would have been the predominant favorite and the cross-zip would have received far fewer votes. In recent times, the cross-zip has gained popularity among the TFL community, while the A2 has lost popularity. I suspect this evolution is, among other things, a reflection of the changing demographics within this forum. That said, I personally believe the cross-zip is the most interesting and stylish jacket style, although I am not yet ready to take the plunge and cross-over (pardon the pun) (I voted for the cafe racer).

I was just thinking about this the other day. When I started looking at this forum a couple years ago it seemed that there were at least one or two new A2s posted every day with people requesting advice on fit or highlighting a new offering in this style. I myself came to this forum looking for guidance as to which was the “best” A2.
I have evolved as well and now I find cross zips and other mc style jackets to be more my thing.

It is hard to keep it to just one. I ticked Halfbelts but also dig A2s (don;t have one yet though) and cross zips (which I do have).

*sigh* so difficult. I went with cross-zip, just because I think they look so cool and flexible jackets (I also tend to include Irvins in them), but I really could have gone as easily for the A-2 or the half-belt.

I cast my vote for the CR. Edgy, cool and very versatile. It’s a perfect choice for the times when a cross-zip would be over the top. Love my vintage half belt, but it doesn’t have the edge of a good ol CR made for riding.

Surprised the half belts are leading I thought the cross zips would win it hands down, glad to see one other sheepskin enthusiast is still on the board. It was this forum that got me into them in the first place and the A-2, living in the sticks we're always behind the curve

My sentiments exactly ! Back in the day when I was a pleated dress pants (trousers) guy , my go to jacket was my collared Eastman Luftwaffe. Looked just fine with shirt and silk tie. Same jacket on the weekend to ride my motorcycle no worries !

Now I'm a black/brown or fawn Levi 501/504/604 wear to work guy, (no tie !) , dress shirt or long sleeve polo shirt.
Centre zipped black collared jacket "from the burgeoning fleet" and you're good to go. On the bike OR in the car...

All my jackets are "slimmer" than the "Highwayman" cut , quite close fitting

I kinda pity all y'all who have trouble selecting which style is your favorite. I'd settle for a jacket that fits.

I know, just buy a few jackets and work out your measurements, then buy a vintage jacket that matches, or order custom. Yeah. . . no.

After wasting a couple weeks wages trying the vintage approach, I've learned some sellers can't identify leather, and others can't read a ruler. And I'm pretty sure whoever claimed shoulder width doesn't mean anything is one of those pencil-necked dweebs who finds some 38" jackets to be too large . . .

Custom? One maker said no thanks, we don't work that big; Ive yet to receive a response from the other I tried to contact.

So yeah, sorry for your dilemma. Wanna trade? ;-)

Have you reached out to Johnson Leather in San Francisco? I think this might be just the job for them. They are very good at custom work and I’m sure they will build you a jacket as big as it needs to be as long as you are willing to pay for it.

We have REAL seasons here. Summer no jackets, Fall and Spring mostly Half-Belts and a few A1's A2's thrown in for good measure. Winter is where the REAL problems begin. Pea Coats, Toggles and Car Coats get me through the early Winter to say about January. After that it's Shearling, Parka's and Arctic gear. There is no "fave" jacket for me. I've some I really love and border on being "go to" but weather trumps ALL considerations. Great thread but it makes my head hurt!
