Got my first B-3 Jacket today. Looking for fit advice. How should it fit?

I don't get considering keeping an expensive repro B3 when even a pro ( Ken Calder ) advises that it is, indeed, cut too short. To me it does look strange. I would certainly go for the refund and purchase a B3 that has a more normal better B3 fit.

Is this SB B3 some kind of fashionized slim version? Looks very nice to me as a non-historical, modern rendition

Shin, if you like it, keep it. It's on the short side but it's a fashion jacket, anyway. You won't be going to war in it. Nobody will. No need for a "correct" B3 fit anymore. It's all just fashion & cosplay. I think it looks really cool. I think you look really cool in this jacket. So again, if you like it, if the length of the jacket doesn't bother you, keep it. And if you don't feel comfortable wearing it, exchange it.

Not a fashion item as far as I know. It's just slim like that and I didn't size down.

Indeed you are right. For me I bought it because it's damn warm and I think down feather parkas look hideous. So an aviator shearling would be the perfect balance that combines both coolness and warmth. I went the historic route because: 1/ fashion shearling jackets are outlandishly priced. 2/ I want something that lasts me for a lifetime.
Still, this short length would mean by butt would be freezing and the cold air can get into my chest quite easily, firsthand experience. While this is indeed a lovely jacket and I can see how it'll last till I die, I have decided to return it. The advices here are right. I should get something I am 100% happy with or else it will keep bugging me in a year or two.

Shin if you want down parka invest in Moorer it slim fit & actually a quality product with very light weight. I ended up ordering SB ANJ & Eastman 1942 Irvin purely for bad ass look they give. I am not into authencity or exact replica. But I don’t mind paying for quality. And every thing else is cherry on top.

I checked Moorer. Nope. Not a fan of nylon shell parka that makes you look like a Michelin man at all.
I am a leather jacket guy and if I can wear leather, I'll take leather over anything synthetic. Just my preference. I also prefer my clothes to have some weight in 'em. I don't understand the complaints that the B3s are too heavy. I like the weight on me. Always bought heavyweight denim, heavyweight wool pants, heavy weight leather. The downside is, I can't wear 'em from May-September most of the time haha.
Post your ANJ and Eastman Irvin once you get them. Would be interesting to see the comparison in warmth and comfort

Well Irvin is in back order till end of January for size 42 & it’s same warmth as your jacket 19 mm & SB is exact replica of your jacket 18 mm for body & 22 mm shoulders. For Moorer you can get lot of options. I went with cashmere & wool blend with Loro Piana wool rain system. Very very versatile & light weight jacket with no bulk at all. But I do understand preference thing.

Good decision. Now you have some experience and can ask the right questions before the next purchase. And you'll be completely satisfied with the next purchase. Good luck!

If the only thing you disliked was the length I'd see if you could do it a bit longer. If they'll refund you I'm sure they would remake it. I'm doing an ANJ4 myself and I think I'll do the 18mm body with 22mm collar. I'm doing steerhide instead of horse though... I think the steer is a bit lighter and easier to break in.
