OK, I'll look around. I'm really down on contemporary jackets to do a comparison. Probably have something I'm not thinking of. Interesting idea!

It's hardly possible to choose which one is better - 'cause both jackets shown above are absolutely gorgeous, true masterpieces!

Nice and interesting! No extra piping on the original but other than that, spot on repro. It's funny though how the old J100 doesn't have the fancy diamond pulls.

What's going on with the 666? You got it?

It did not fit well and I sent it back. Two problems. First, when unzipped, the front of the jacket fanned out at the bottom and there was an enormous amount of space at the back. It looked like I had a back-pack under the jacket. Second, the gussets created a stepped effect on the shoulder seam that I did not like.

As in @ksozay's post I have to say I really prefer the repro (in some ways). It's actually not a fair comparison, the originals not being given the same level of attention during the build the repros are. What would make the thread(s) more interesting would be fit photos of each. That's where the real champion emerges. Both are beautiful though, no arguing that!

Either one is a grail jacket to most of us mere mortals, each “perfect” in its own way.

One as a pristine vintage original that is arguably the most iconic and sought after cafe racer pattern ever.

The other as a modern reproduction with vastly superior materials and workmanship than the original it pays homage too.

For me it’s impossible to say one is “better” than the other.

agree with DWTH, I love to see comparisons, ideally from the same jacket when brand new and few years being worn.... but original version vs their more modern repro would do too.

Great idea for a thread. Don't know how members will take to this post, as the Schott isn't meant to be an exact reproduction. But the styles are close enough for a then-and-now comparison.

1950s Rich Sher FQHH Perfecto-style jacket:

2018 Schott 613SH in horsehide:

I like both jackets but prefer the more reserved hardware, smaller main zip and smaller collar on the Rich Sher. Its chest pocket also seems to have better placement. But since it lacks a zip pull (and appears to have always lacked a pull), I haven't really used it.

Yep, Beck fit a bit weird. I like 'em but they're odd. Later ones have gigantic sleeves, too. I returned mine because it was beyond trashed but it was a very cool jacket otherwise. Cal is where it's at, though. Their CR is the best fitting jacket I've handled. Both that I have had. One was too large but the other one I'll never part with. They're virtually identical to the 666. If you're still after a good CR, that model of Cal is an endgame piece.
