Received my black Akubra Traveller today. Ordered from David Morgan and received in three days! Unfortunately, they were back ordered for 3 months from all the Australian sites, so I opted to pay more to get it quick. Akubra makes such great hats! Now just waiting on my husband's Leisure Time in Regency Fawn...

I may have the chance to go to Austrailia next year. Any reommendations for hat shops in Sydney to get a good deal on an Akubra in their homeland?

Don't know if they have a storefront, but here's a link to a seller out of Australia (Australian Gear.) It appears they have some Akubra varieties not available at some of the US resellers.
Has anyone on the board dealt with them and if so what is your take? Are the Akubras they sell of first quality or factory seconds, etc.

Dude, there are a bunch of excellent Australian Akubra dealers. HatsDirect and Everything Australian are outstanding and carry the widest selection, I've had good buying experiences with both. Both dealers consistently get praised by the folks here. I've also had good buying experiences with a site called Aussie Bush Hats and Oilskins.
OTOH, I had a bad experience with Hats By The Hundred, which I think may be another "front" for Australian Gear. Just sayin'...

Here's an image of one in particular(The Coolabah) which if I were into that style I'd acquire. What I think is neat about it in addition to the raw edged brim is the crocodile skin band. The raw edge on the brim would allow for individual customization for those that might want to craft their own edging or looks neat as is.

I ordered a Leisure Time from Australian gear.com for my husband instead of Hatsbythe100.com and it popped up and said 1 to 3 weeks for shipping after I placed the order. I ordered before Thanksgiving and still haven't received notification that it's shipped. I saved a few bucks, but not sure it was worth it as I got my Coober Pedy from HBT100 in less than 10 days...

I've also ordered from Hats Direct and Everything Australian and received excellent service each time--zero complaints, and I've recommended both a number of times. But Mark70 was responding to Rmccamey's query about Akubra vendors in Sydney, and neither are particularly close. Hats Direct/The Hattery is closer but still more than 100 km (62 miles) west, and Everything Australian is more than 900 km (560 miles) to the southwest.
If I were going to Sydney I'd find a way to make that trip to Hats Direct/The Hattery. It would be nice to meet the people who work there that I've conversed with through e-mails, and I'd get to see more of Australia along the way; it's a win/win. But Rmccamey didn't mention what types of transportation might be available to him and/or whether or not he'd have the spare time to make that trip, so...
That being said, Akubra's website does have a vendor/dealer/retailer search function, and there are apparently a number of shops in Sydney where he could buy an Akubra or ten without leaving the city.

Thanks to all for the info, feedback, and suggestions. Not sure if I will be able to get out of the city but I'd like to get to the Akubra factory if possible. I'm sure I'll get back to the states with something new from down under regardless

Well, that's good to hear. My problem with them was a long time ago - around 2006 - so they likely have an entirely different staff and procedures now. But it remains the only problem I ever had with an Australian dealer across 7 or 8 Akubra purchases in 15 years... so I won't ever recommend them myself.

I recently purchased my first Akubra, the Coober Pedy in Santone Fawn and thought I'd share some shots! I'm already stoking my Akubra addiction and bought the Traveller in black. Nice purchase Brent.I bought a heated hat “block” on eBay. I got it undersized so it doesn’t resize the sweat. If the liner is removed, it’s simple to work the damp felt over the heated block and remove the creases. If the liner is going to remain in I don’t plug it in and just use a regular clothes iron on the outside and work it against the block. I’ve had great luck.

I will soon order my Stylemaster size 55 at EA in the colour acorn fawn or loden. I cannot make a good dicision. Let me tell you what kind of person I am.
Slightly brown coloured with grey hair and having facial (grey) hair trimmed to 3mm. I am slim fitted (clothing is M/50 and 1.78 cm tall. Living is The Netherlands should not be a problem when you think about hat shrinking: here its not very hot and the raining days are few. Besides that, I can switch between a number of hats! So I think size 55 will do. I have tried a cooper pedy in size 56, but this one landed on my ears instead beiing just above it!.
So, go for a 55 and give the order to EA?
