Be my guest Lots, I can use the company ! hmmm...$160., eh....wow, the shipping's expensive!...Like Chuck pointed out, I guess the total cost isn't too awfully bad, considering it's an Akubra....but for $30. more you can get a custom made Garrison which includes shipping....both are good hats....I did find another place that's selling the Akubra Adventurer at a lower cost than DM...@ $128. compared to DM's $150....just in case, Jon suggested a hat maker could convert the Adventurer to a snap brim...I'll also check that out and see if there's a local hat maker near me....sooner or later I'll make some kind of decision....the only downside to having too many choices, is too many decisions

Welcome. You’ll find a lot of information here on Akubra hats if you search through the relevant threads.

I can’t say I’ve have any similar issues with any of my Akubras, but I’m guessing I don’t wear them as hard as you. Maybe some more details on how you’re wearing it and caring for it might be helpful. If you perspire a lot and it soaks through the sweatband it will discolor the felt. For hats (and shoes/boots) that I want to keep looking nice I never wear them two days in a row. That’s not an option with a backpacking hat so you’ll need to expect some accelerated aging and distressing. If the hat is exposed to oils, dirt, and camping mishaps etc. you should expect a level of deterioration. I’d be curious to see what a good cleaning and naphtha bath followed by reblocking does for the hat.

You know, some hatters are charging $1000.00+ for distressed hats....

Also (and this is a small thing), it is appreciated if you put new posts like this in an existing thread e.g., Ask a Question Get and Answer, or Akubra Overload, rather than starting a new thread.

That's some serious character on that hat!
