Judging by the sleeve length against the torsos, looks like there are some short jackets in these vintage photos.

I guess am one of the few that prefer a bit short over too long. To my eye, these look great. And I do prefer short jackets to ride. If I am able to sit on the end of the jacket when on the bike it feels off to me. I don’t like the jacket near the seat.

Likewise.

And I can't stand it if I'm pushing the jacket upwards with my lap when I sit on a bike. I just hate that so much that I can't focus on the road.

Strange. I put quite a few miles on my HD every spring, summer, and fall. All of my MC jackets cover my belt, yet I don't even come close to setting on them.

No idea. Maybe my posture sucks but I have tall apes. I like them at the belt but would choose shorter rather than longer.

The Vanson is as long as I prefer and it looks great. Perhaps it is the photos, but the other two look a tad longer. If it came to a decision between a tad longer or a tad shorter than the your stellar Vanson I would go shorter.

A lot depends on how stiff the hide is too. A softer jacket will yield more readily without needing to be shorter...or a two way zip. That helps as well.

OK..after searching through dozens of photos I found one...but who would want to wear just the jacket part out on the street..??..and why such short sleeves? Weird

That's the full-on Joey Ramone circa 1975 fit.... Either the guy is abnormally tall, or the sleeves are designed to be worn with extremely long gauntlets. I'm guessing in this case the wearer just happens to be unusually tall, though.

I've never had trouble with any of these riding jackets, pictured above, pushing up or uncomfortable on the bike. Must have to do with how someone is built or their riding position I suppose.

As with all things, it'll be very subjective, but certainly ride position is a big deal. I've seen guys wearing modern riding jacket that look ridiculously over-long.... until you see them ride away on one of those Japanese sports bikes that the rider has to pretty much crouch over like a horse-racing jockey, and you realise a jacket much less than 28" long would be half-way up his back when he couches over that thing...
