I guess it just depends on the film.
I remember enjoying Strictly Ballroom (Aussie film) so much it seemed entirely natural that everyone errupted into applause at the end.
I'm sure I have also done that at other films but I can't remember what films they were. Possibly the first time I saw Gone With The Wind (on the big screen).

Last week I got to see Raiders of the Lost Ark on the big screen for free. At my college, the film board shows recent films every week for a minimal charge. But seeing as last week was the first week everyone was back in town, they decided to go classic. Even though all there likely had seen the film many times before, all laughed during the funny parts. Also, everyone applauded at the end.

I dont hit the movies very often, but one of the last ones I did go see I did hear a lot of applause and realized too, that not so many ppl clap anymore. I remember clapping being a part of the end of a movie as a youngster and I'm only 34.

Clapping at the cinema? I've never heard anyone do that. I go to the cinema fairly regularly, and I've never heard anyone applaud. Perhaps that just shows how young I am. It's not that we don't think the films are good, but it's like applauding a tv show - especially as the actors/producers wouldn't be seen dead in the cinema I go to.
Wall-e was excellent though, wasn't it? If ever I were to applaud a film, it would be that one.

I remember seeing " much a do about nothing ...." and people applauded...
It was pretty good .
I never did see WALL-E .
