This is a photo of my father-in-law in the 1930's sporting his old 1927 Model T Ford, saddle, bedroll, and a great Western hat. He was a working cowboy in the Nebraska Sandhills for about 50 years. I love this photo. He was a good man.

The first movie I can recall seeing Mr. Brimley in was Brubaker (1980), but his performance in Absence of Malice the following year made me sit up and take notice. To a degree it set the mold for his portrayals of "no nonsense" characters throughout his career, but he plays those characters so well that it's always a pleasure to watch him.

One of his no-nonsense characters was in "Boys of Twilight", a TV series he shared with Richard Farnsworth. It only lasted a few episodes, but I had high hopes for it. I guess even in the early 90s it was still too anti-entitlement.
