Stefan, Thank you! Yes the felt is thick with a rough finish. It might be a more extreme weather hat. The felt is still pliable enough to dry crease. I would have to ask Horst but my guess is some of these hats were lying around from the past or people gave them to him when he opened the museum. He has some really interesting stuff in the museum including many old felt hat bodies. The museum is a working hat shop which includes Velour related tools / machines so definitively worth checking out if in the area.

S. J. Frankel Wien "Sirius 1/2 Et.", 57cm, date stamped 01/06/1959. The felt is a dark navy blue with a smooth finish. The overall workmanship is fantastic and I really like the form plus mid ribbon width. Also fits fine even though 57cm and in excellent condition. The color should look better in natural light.

I'll let our resident expert on all things German and Austrian hutmacher @mayserwegener chime in for details on the hats, but from what I can see these are all sixties hats. Lembert was founded in 1861, so the designation "100 Jahre Hutmacher" on the sweatband is an indication it was produced in the sixties. The style makes it fit there too. Same goes for the other two: shorter brim and tapered low crown are signs of a sixties hat.

I don't have much to add. Hückel Weilheim lasted into the mid 1970s so the hat could be into the early 1970s. I would guess 1970s for the Wegener. I am pretty sure Lembert used the "100 Jahre Hutmacher" mark past 1961 so it could be a bit later. My site has information about the companies.

I was requested by mayserwegener to post this here in the German Austrian section. This is a Tremel Top Hat I purchased this week and wanted to know something about it. Mayserwegener was kind enough to share a link to some pictures in their factory in Germany during the 1950's. Thank you! If anybody else has some information on Tremel Top Hats, I would be very grateful.

Also is there a paper label behind the sweatband?

No markings inside the box which appears made for one hat. But it is wood lined which is a first for me. No paper labels behind the sweatband unfortunately.

Thanks! The JHS box is a rare find. I have a couple larger boxes with wood frames. Here is one from O.S. Hess.

I wear a 7 1/4 or 7 1/8, depending on brands, and it fits me perfectly. I measured the inside with a tailor tape and it is about 22 1/2 inches in circumference, or about 57 cm. Thank you for replying.

Can anyone speculate on the age and quality of this hat? I don’t have access to any labels etc. I don’t have anything like it and I was thinking about adding it to my collection, but the seller knows even less about it than I do.

It's an equestrian hat made by R.M. Wegener. It's probably 1970s or later. R.M. Wegener fairly recently stopped internal production so they no longer make such hats.

Thanks, Steve. I can’t tell if the brim binding seam is on the side or if it’s a back bow? I’m fresh out of horses, but I think I’ll get it just for the experience.

Thank you for posting the photos. It's a Trachten style Velour. Alois Pichler Wien goes way back but I don't know when the company started. My guess would be early 1960s but it could be older.

It’s listed as a size “55/56 cm” so it’s way too small for me. It’s cheap and I’m tempted to buy it just to inspect it. I love old European velours.
