What a perfectly classy lid, Steve. I really love the liner/tippit.S. J. Frankel Wien "Sirius 1/2 Et.", 57cm, date stamped 01/06/1959. The felt is a dark navy blue with a smooth finish. The overall workmanship is fantastic and I really like the form plus mid ribbon width. Also fits fine even though 57cm and in excellent condition. The color should look better in natural light.

I really didn't expect to like this hat sooo much. Wow! Magnificent, soft felt. Yes, I'm gushing.
I had seen it on Etsy for several months, but didn't really pay attention to it, because I dislike the "Gay Prince" style brim stitching and felt ribbons.
Brent, aka @deadlyhandsome sent me a PM about its rarity, so I took a closer look. I figured Brent would know more about rare hats than I did, and I was correct. I hadn't even noticed it is a John Cavanagh, Inc..
Here is some info copied from the CityVintageClothes listing, owned by Roberto and Jula Isola.
To my mind, they tend to offer the best hats on Etsy. Although they certainly aren't shy with their asking prices, I think for once this hat was worth more than what I paid for it, IMHO.

Yeah, I think you are right! Initial reaction is that the felt is very friendly and wil take any crease easily, although there appears to be some minor ghosting from previous bash. The brim is also shapeable and can be snapped down with no problem. I foresee this being a very versatile hat in terms of styling. I put it back to open crown and placed in the freezer where it will reside for a couple days. Looking forward to playing with this one.

Well it have arrived like this.
Doesn't feel like wool... probably a mix of wool and bunny fur. It's made on 2 parts, not a unique hat body, 3 3/4" brim, and what's left of the sweatband seems to be painted gold with the hatter mark/brand. Sweatband is shot and needs replacement.
It's drying...

Picked this one up yesterday. Had seen it before and left it then, but it is so unusual I had to add it to the collection.
Harald backbow in black. Size 57 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. Probably a woolfelt or at least in large part wool. Unreeded sweatband with the cord running all the way round. No labels inside the hat unfortunately. Something tells me this is German manufacture. The flat brim flange is very unusual (and the reason I bought it). Probably 1920's or 1930's.

Stetson Casual. It was badly wrinkled, and the felt is so very soft and pliant I thought I probably would have to send it to Ignacio.
