It shows up a lot during WWll and a few years after, try a google search and you'll find everything you'd want to know about aralac. I wonder if some of the Lounge members have hats made with this???

Marc, I have posted quite a few bits out of these old journals and will continue when the appropriate time or questions warrant it. They reveal a lot about the hats you all fancy.

Hat Life

Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you has a copy of the November 1947 edition of Hat Life. I work in a men's clothing store and there is an article on page 42 about our store in the 40's. We are doing a 75 year commenrative book and we need this picture. If anyone has that copy and could scan that page I would be grateful. Thanks alot guys.

Hat life

I will check my library to see if I have the issue . The new owners of Hat Life have no back issues at all. I met the previous owner and bought out what he had which wasn't much . The New York Public Library has it all from 1891 to 1958 .

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I work for Peter's Clothiers, and we also own Jack Henry's too. The picture is of the old Jack Henry's building, and the hat shop inside. I have a really bad xerox copy of it that I can't use for the book. I was hoping for a digital copy. I have looked into our local library, and they are trying to get it for me, but I don't know what kinda luck they will have. I did search through the New York Public Library, and I did find it. Thanks so much though. :eusa_clap

Yes, I had noticed before that mthatter (just before my time, apparently) had systematically erased every post he'd ever made. When it comes to images, though, even if the post can't be edited all the writer has to do is go their image hosting site and move or delete the image. That will break the link and we'll get the big red X. We see it all the time in old threads.

That's the one weak spot with the threads that are intended to be reference threads--should a member need to make room on their site for more photos they'll delete old ones, thus rendering the reference threads useless even if they don't mean to.

Unfortunately, the fix to that (enough server space for the Lounge to host the photos) is likely cost-prohibitive.

Fun tread with LOST images......hopefully they can be restored.......We are loosing a LOT of History in these threads with broken links...

We need a instructional, to show people how to post the pictures direct....

I'll have to see if I can find my original images.
Direct upload presents about the same challenge level as using a toaster now. Just click and hold the image you want to upload, and drag it into the text box.

Edit: No luck. There in the collection of my ex wife now, keeping my tools, books, antiques, etc., company.

I ran across this interesting article from a 1957 "Hat Life" magazine talking about the price of fur and the threat of rabbit extermination back in 1955.......(ironically about the time of the lower crown short brim introduction). Could cutting costs have been the drive for these "new" styles introduced by the hat companies??? Something to ponder.......in this most interesting article.
