This is actually the smallest sized hat that I took apart and reblocked to five sizes bigger. I wanted to keep it Western but I was doubtful that I could with that big of a size up. I tried out a blocking experiment that I thought of and decided that I'd give it a try. After my little experiment I ended up with an even 3 1/8 brim all around. The brim width was originally 3 1/2 inches wide. With that big of a size up I was happy with losing only 5/16 of width, and evenly all around. I also gained an 1/8 of an inch to the open crown height which was also a pleasant surprise. I was able to keep it Western, which made me happy.

Thanks! I originally ordered this hat from Ritch as a Conagher in either 1991 or 1992 (after the TV mini-series) but didn't like how it looked on me at the time. It was gradually morphed into what I call a Tom Mix.
After working today on a couple of hats with "boiled water & all it's particulates" I did some spot cleaning on this 1989 Kevin O'Farrell from his Durango shop. Still working on how I want the brim. The indoor pics are a bit too amber but the best representation of the true color which I am calling Chestnut. Any spots seen just haven't dried yet.

Well, I guess more pictures of this hat can go here, because of the indeterminate vintage and refurbishment, but in its original form, it likely belongs in the pre-1940's thread.
I worked a dry diamond crease into it. This definitely has that clay-like felt. I really need to get a scale precise enough to measure hats, but just in hand, this hat feels relatively light compared to others of similar proportions.
