Thats funny QB that liquify tool can be allot of fun.

Thanks. But you have to have sort of a finished product in mind to make it work well. I knew what clothes I wanted to wear for this...a 1920s college jock. Heck, I had to not shave for four days to get this look.

BTW...if you think I have some, big pro studio to do this, you're wrong. My camera's on a tripod, I'm standing in hall in front of a dark doorway and my flash is bouncing off a wall.

Since this thread started with portraits and avatars were mentioned shortly thereafter, I thought I'd start there as well. Not long ago @LizzieMaine posted a photo in another thread of vaudeville entertainer and recording artist Nat M. Wills dressed as his "tramp" character. I liked it and thought it might make a nice avatar, but it needed a little work to make it more "me". Original on the left, my "shopped" version on the right:

And to solidify my "Sci-Fi Nerd" cred, here are a two examples of things I created from scratch to a) use as cell phone wallpapers, and b) see if I could do it. First, a Type I phaser from the original Star Trek television series...

...and a HAL 9000 interface from 2001: A Space Odyssey:

Not exactly photorealistic, but good enough for a cell phone. ;)

Whoa, nice work man!
Especially impressive recomposition on the vaudevillian actor!
Thank you, I sincerely appreciate your kind comments! That was a fun one because I had to adjust the contrast of both the original photo and the photo of the cap to try to make the different resolutions more "seamless". It's not completely convincing, but most people wouldn't notice unless they took a closer look. ;)
