Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

I got it by dozing off on my desk with arm folded as pillow after lunch, lucky I didn't drool on my sleeve

Just ordered one of these:

When i think denim i usually think blue. I guess denim can be red too. Atleast this usually blue Levis one is.
I wish they had made inside pockets like these back when i first wore them.

The inside pockets as byproduct of those handwarmers is a more important feature of a jacket than the handwarmers themself for me,
I saw adv of red type3 and really tempted, but i m not sure about how it looks faded, i tried to google it but came with no result... which worries me, as i m afraid it would turn pastel pink or salmon or magenta.

im thinking red warp x black weft would probably produce darker shade of red and a pink proof fading.... maybe... or it would look like rotten thing lol.

I've had a red Levi Type 3 but I never wore it near enough to show even hint of fading. Red was too red.

Stumbled upon this one on eBay and it's neat. Someone loved their jacket.

Maybe this will help. Here’s alittle more faded red Levis shirt for reference. Both are fairly old. I can’t see them going to pink before they fall apart. The pics show them more bright than too the eye.

I have a denim shirt very much like that one except the tags are different, the little red "Levi" tag on the left pocket has been cut off, and the color is dark green:



I think Levi marketed these as "work" shirts which might explain the "unusual for Levi" colors, but like the Trucker jacket I posted about upthread I don't remember when or where I got it.

It looks like a vintage Lee Sherpa jacket.

The tell tale sign here is the zig zag stitching on the left side (photo right) of the jacket.





What I’m not seeing in some quick searches is the “star” buttons. Modern ones also have more parallel stitching down from the chest pockets and the hand warmer pocket placement - though this is varied quite a bit when scanning vintage jackets.

What separates this jacket from the more common Levi’s Sherpa jackets is the use of buttons instead of snaps.

Can you post an up close photo of a button?

Do they make type3 in green? Green looks good faded.

now I know what triggered low triangle back creases, wear the jacket with lowest button done, and do daily house chore.

Hey guys can I join the club? Here's my two denim jackets! The first/top jacket is a Wrangler Cowboy Cut M-159 (74265RT). It is blanket lined in red flannel material. The denim is pretty light weight. Almost a shirt material. It's a size small but is cut very generous. You could wear a hooded sweatshirt underneath. It's made in Bangladesh but seems to be constructed fairly well.

The lower jacket is made by Schaefer Outfitter of Steamboat Colorado. It is also blanket lined but the blanket is much heavier. The denim is also much more robust...like a good pair of blue jeans. It's a size small and fits me perfectly. Comes just over my belt. Back length is 24 inches. Not much room to layer. It was made in USA and is constructed better than the Wrangler. This is what I think of when I think "jean jacket". By the way the group pictures best represent the true colors. Wrangler is a dark blue and the Schaefer is a lighter blue.

I don't think so, but you could get a white one and dye it.

Not owned a denim jacket in years until very recently I bought a sleeveless, black kutte (with leather trim on thecollar and pockets, cause I'm a classy girl like that). Laced at the sides, too. Not my normal choice, but I wanted a cheap experiment with this sort of thing before I sink money into an Aero Shackleton, and thesidelacking lets me play with fit a bit. Main aim was to havesomething thathas the security / convenience of being able to stowpassport / tickets / phone / mp3 player when on the move in an airport, easily removing eerything at security (rather than have it all stuck in my trouser pocketsandhave to unload and repack all the time) but less hot than an actual jacket as most of my significant travel is done in warmer months. Worked pretty well. Otherwise, for lighter, non-leather jackets I'm mostly a Harrington type, but recently been tempted by one of the Lee zip-up denims, particularly the indigo one with the tawny corduroy collar and red satin lining.

It's all subjective; jut this last weekend I had to order a newpair of jeans after not having really worn any for couple of years, and given that I'm trying to spend as littleas possible as I'm on a diet and hopefully they'll be far too big by the end of the Summer, I had to turn to the mainstream. I ended up cursing a blue storm at howstupidly narrowall modern denim is, and how absurd it makes the average adult man look. (Not least fatsos like me - I'd look like Humtpy Dumpty in half of it). THe irony isthat back in the nineitieswhen I was a child in my early twenties, I used to whine that I couldn't find jeans narrow enough. Now the kind of drainpipes I coulsn't find anywhere back then are widely pushed as "Straight leg", and the widest available now are about the same as the narrowest back then. Fashion is stupidity writ large.

Anyhow.

I highly doubt anyone wore a wider leg denim back in the forties for any reason other than that was pretty standard for all trousers at the time. Can't honestly say I've ever noticed a hem rub like that in jeans, but then it must be pushing tenty years since I last wore apair of jeans uncuffed, so I doubt I'd notice it.

Nice. I was tempted, but I think that v shape is the wrong way round for my body shape. I'm hopnig he brings back the Yard Boss jacket at some point. I've not been interested in a denim jacket for years, but I'm inclined to maybe try one again now, and that design looked nice. Too many TYpe 3s everywhere for my tastes these days (and almost all of them comically overlong, too).

Puts me in mind of the bleaching effect Westwood used to use on some of her shirts in the Seditionaries era. Not my style now, but I'd have rocked this back in my bondage trousered youth.

I know we all behave like spoilt teenagers but even so I don't think anyone in their early 20's can be considered a child.
