I’m not sure if the band is original, and it isn’t attached and relies solely on the friction to hold it on the crown (I suspect it was added later).

I went by Buckaroo Hatters in Covington Tennessee to pick up a couple of hats, a Black Quigley and another rough rider hat. Four because I have a Bone one that I wear in the summer for dress, a tan one that's just a touch small, a much later tan one for dress, and I needed another for wearing around (replacing the small one). I have a tan Quigley shaped one in Tan and wanted a winter version.

I suggest going to a hat shop, Mike and Rocky fit the hat to your head with lots and lots of steam (in the hat). I also suggest eating breakfast at the Bald Butcher in Covington, you wont be hungry for a while. Erwin's is also good.

They were originally a famous Straw Hat Factory in Lindenberg, Germany (see Mayser Milz & Cie, Ottmar Reich, ect). I think they started Felt Hat production prior to WWII but increased production + add felt production post WWII. Many ex J. Hückel´s Söhne (Czechoslovakia) ended up working for Aurel Huber post WWII. I am not sure why it's so difficult to find older Aurel Huber hats but this one is fantastic. The Antilope finish is great and the felt easily dry creases. I am not sure if the vents are original but they lineup properly so highly possible.

The only writing on the hat is on the back of the sweat with a stamp that says "R.C. & Co. Leathers with the Chamois colored back". The sweatband is soft, pliable leather and it is butted together with what looks like a small piece of tape on the back and a stitch or two of white thread holding it together.

The previous owner suggested, based on the quality and construction, that it might be a 50's or 60's vintage. I hope some of you Shudde aficionado's will chime in. (To be truthful, I not yet searched TFL for any info.)
