Photographs Of Hats Fresh From Surviving The Elements

You certainly could be right about that; I will be the first to tell you I’ve never shaped a poly hat and so am just thinking out loud. I’ve been trying to decide between a hemp or poly hat for durable summer wear, but can’t find much in either material with a taller crown and a 3” or so brim.
Obviously poly won't absorb the moisture from the steam (or rain for that matter) so if the moist steam doesn't help by providing some lubricity to the surface of the poly then dry heat should work just fine.

In your own search if you prefer poly you should be able to find one of the trooper style hats from Stratton or Lawman but you might have to live with a cloth sweat. Keep in mind they are heavy so don't get the "double" poly.

Peters Bros. has the Tankersley hemp, named after our own @Frunobulax

I just wish Peter Bros. Would fix/complete their @$&%# website.
They also told me (last month) that they were limited to a 2 3/4” brim. I still want one, but I would like to hear an evaluation of the hat from someone who has one of their recent products.

I wish they named it the Frunobulax Hemp instead. Then you could have one of these with it.
Although, Tankersley is ok. After all, it’s got the word Tank in it!

Extreme, late spring weather across the country. It's been sunny, then rainy here and the temp is supposed to drop down to 34F Sunday night. That's oddly cold for this area. It was 73F here on Thursday, but the high today is forecast at 54F. Crazy.

If I was to get stuck in the rain, this would be a great choice. Nice.

Tbh, when there is a more than likely chance of rain, the Fed IVs are the first ones I go for. I know the vintage and customs can take it, but I feel less stressed when it's a hat that is not as expensive, and is easy to replace, although I think my IVs will last forever.
