How to travel with hats

Interesting. Do you think it would harm the felt on an expensive custom made fedora? The "teeth" are my main concern.

in clear, white, or black. They swivel. When using this one might try carrying a very small piece of plastic to put onto the grip so it doesn't harm the felt. I am still deciding what to do though. Maybe you can print something smaller?? And a larger opening on the hangar to accommodate chairs better. And felt on the grip to prevent damage. I need something for my pocket. Please let me know if you come up with something!

Nope, they don't actually apply any pressure to the felt.

Damage to the felt was my primary concern. Something that fits in my pocket would be great too. I think I will order one. It's such a shame that restaurants don't provide hat racks anymore.

I ended up designing one. Had a 3D printer so I went thought a bunch of prototypes. Got one I liked and mastered the printing (printing with nylon is not easy) I like it so much I gave it a name "PortaFedora" and I opened an Etsy shop around it. I am not supposed to place a classified ad on the site but if you want to check it out. Got to etsy or ebay and search for Portafedora. They come in two sizes for different brims. Here are a couple pics. Let me know if you have any questions.

Your idea got me thinking. I need something that will fit easily into my pocket. Check these out! They swivel. Super cheap. 10 for $4.77 on ebay. They fit into my pocket so I can take one to a restaurant. At the restaurant, I hang the hat from my side pocket. Also suitable for increasing storage space. The clip swivels AND the hanger swivels.
A cleaver idea that is named "Cleaver Hangers".

I’ve been using this no cost technique for several years, traveling with multiple hats on extended road trips.
It’s simply a lanyard to hold an ID tag, but I would imagine any cordage would work fine. Basically a long loop with a piece of short cordage tied around it that slides up and down.
To date none have escaped or been misshaped.

I don't know if anyone else wears the hat I do when I'm traveling, sometimes it's really hot or I don't feel like wearing the hat anymore. On my custom hat I made them insert a tab by the sweatband so I could hook it onto my backpack (it would sit on my backpack like a turtle shell).

On some of my hats I don't have this, and I'm curious to know if anyone else carries their hat the way I do when traveling and how you do so.

After careful consideration of how to travel with my fedora on the cycle this summer I decided maybe to use the top trunk case for my hat box if for nothing else. Fits perfect with this 3 1/2 Brim too. Lol

I've not had to travel further than across town since I got back into wearing hats, and at that point I can just leave it on or toss it on the dash until I get to my destination, but I have a few longer trips coming up that already has me wondering the best way to travel with them.

On a recent flight to Atlanta I noticed a gentleman with two hats - one on top of the other. I believe he wore them for the entire flight, and I saw him wearing the "double hat" after we got off of the plane.
I guess that is a way to travel with more than one hat.

I mean you certainly can but... you'll look pretty silly IMO, people will stare not cuz of your style but because of the double hat. I've seen people do that with baseball caps and I just stare, not in a good way, but then if you don't care then why not. Just seems to me to defeat the purpose of having these hats elevate style but then just not care about the traveling aspect. Everyone here seems quite detail oriented.

There are many things that someone "can do" but.. shouldn't?

I thought I did a good job of not staring. However, outside of the context of how to travel with two hats, I thought it unusual. At a bare minimum, I probably would have carried the second hat in my hand after I got off the plane.

Probably what most people would do. Were they nice hats? Was it a hat person or just a person wearing hats?

I would not be good at concealing my stare, my face gives everything away. I need to teach my face to use its inside voice.

They looked like halfway decent fur-felt hats. Not custom, but they looked better than mass-produced wool.

Bob at Black Sheep Hat Works copied & perfected this idea from a vintage hat. When extended the loop is long enough to hang on any hook or knob, or to tie another cord to.

To extend simply pull the loop & the "coin" on the other end will recede behind the sweat.

To retract the loop simply pull the coin. Once retracted I slide the coin back behind the sweat to be out of the way.

omg that's perfect!! I'm pretty sure I could DIY on some of my hats, my non vintage ones I don't mind modifying
