1960s Langlitz Police Cascade. Opinions?

This came in the mail today, a 1960s Langlitz police jacket. I bought it for REALLY cheap shortly after he posted the ad, so that was a lucky break! The PO bought it from an estate sale in Louisiana 20 years ago. Ive never seen a Langlitz PD jacket in this design before. I plan on going to Langlitz tomorrow and trying to get some info on it. Its unlined, which is interesting. It fits (yes!) which is a relief, considering I've bought and returned three Langlitz which didn't fit in the last two months. The leather is a little stiff and could use a cleaning and conditioning, but overall its a fantastic find. My question is, should I have Langlitz put a liner in it? I don't care for the naked hide feeling. The sleeves are a tad long, but I hesitate altering such a great jacket with this much character.

I dont think so, especially with a sweatshirt or flannel underneath for riding. The front just barely covers my belt and its a 23" chest, which works for my build. I love it

Looks good to me (other than sleeves), perhaps a tad big but nothing egregious.
Adding a liner probably will change the fit. If it feels to big that may be a good thing.

I have a LL Police Columbia with Cascade collar. Really like it.

Edit:: The more I look at it, the more I like it. Your instinct was that you really like it and the fit felt good, stick with that.

I don't want to ruin it for you, but that's my initial impression. Looking especially at the collar, the sleeve length, and the back. A Cascade is supposed to be form fitting and tight. If you like it, I think you can wear it, but to me it does look a bit big.

I would not add a lining to it, under any circumstances, though. It is what it is, and should be left as is.

Collar too big and the sleeves too long.
Looks like it fits everywhere else.
Langlitz can give you really accurate direction on your options when you visit them with the jacket.

It really doesn't feel that big on me when I wear it.

It does feel good. I almost always wear a sweatshirt or flannel with my riding jackets so I like them a tad on the looser side. The neck isn't so bad when its snapped. More importantly, I love having an old Langlitz that's a little different from the standard Cascade.

Just my opinion let this one go.
Suggests that cascade that is in the classified, it was a 44, sounded like correct size for you in size.

My initial impression was also that it is slightly too big but when looking more closely I think shortening the sleeves could make the fit looking good - the body is not fitting tight (normally it should fit tighter) but IMO it is still OK and the most important thing is that you like it! Every person likes a different fit, that's why the feedback here is different and you asked for honest opinions. Again, I would keep it and shorten the sleeves. Congrats for the nice jacket!

It fits well in the shoulders which is the most important part. Body is okayish, could be tighter in chest and waist but it works as is, looks like a relaxed fit, not a too big jacket and for what i am concerned, a bit more relaxed is much better than a bit too snug, because the later can look really awkward. I would have the sleeves shortened by a bit, use the extra room in the body to add a thinsulate lining and you got yourself an awesome riding jacket with lots of character!

The Cascade is the perfect crosszip to wear on and off bike imho. Doesn't look too hardcore bikerish without all those laces, hard panels and stuff the Columbia got and from my experience has even better range of motion! Owned two Columbias, one Cascade. Columbias are gone, Cascade is still here and probably one out of two or three jackets I will never sell.

Looks great for layering on the bike. It’s not a slim fitting jacket for casual use, or if it is it’s not working for me in that way. If you bought it as a functional piece of riding gear that you can use multi-season, then I’d say it’s perfect.

I have jackets that appear 100% when worn casually or out in the car , but when on the bike the sleeves ride up !

Thanks everyone for the opinions, appreciated. Im ok with the fit, it works great for riding my Triumph, which is what I would use it for. I agree about not messing with it, but I dont think adding a liner would detract from it. It sure would make it more usable for me. Ill report back any interesting info I find out about it when I drop by Langlitz today. I suspect its horse hide...
