Greetings All:
Today....i’ve been reflecting on several things. Moms, gone and present. Children, blessings beyond words. The passing of friends from long ago and newfound, such as here in the Lounge Family.
Things left unsaid and undone.

Why do i have hats i don’t wear because i feel they are too valuable, rare or pristine. View attachment 168374 View attachment 168375 View attachment 168376 View attachment 168377 View attachment 168379 View attachment 168380 View attachment 168381 Special occasion hats where the special occasion never comes. Then the bell rings all to soon and they are just hats in a box.
So, to that, today...one i wouldn’t wear but today i will so as not to go hoarded and unappreciated before the bell rings closer to home.
A Berteil of Paris, in very dark blue, where G. Borsalino learned his trade as a young man. An exquisite example on all fronts, old and grand.
I hope Bob (RJR) would give it a +1.
Be well. Bowen
Curiously I too was perusing much the same thing. Your rare hats are the inspiration of a true artisan, how well you wear them. But should it be kept away like a work of art? Don't take that as a criticism, I'm just thinking out loud. Bob Ruby is someone that I knew but had never met, just like all the other Loungers, but his passing felt the same as the news, that my next door neighbour at my last address, had died a few days ago. It is so sad, but it also underlines our own mortality.

So I'm glad that your precious hats saw daylight today, and I know they got a +1. And for the same reason my old MG does not stay hibernating in the garage just waiting for the day that the sun has got his hat on. We went out to lunch at a rather quaint ye olde worlde place that a couple we know have bought. A rather good lunch it was too, and as I was driving, my liquid refreshment was no more than H2O but on our return, I opened a bottle of Merlot and enjoyed a glass of that. Then after learning of Bob's passing, I raised my glass to him. Did he say plus one? I don't know, but just in case, I had a second glass.

Had no intentions of wearing a black hat today and then there was no choice. Bob was a fan of cowboy boots. In fact, the last pm we had was about a couple pair of cowboy boots he was looking to buy. He finally told me he bought them and I just hope he had a chance to wear them. Miss you, sir.

I resemble those thoughts, Bowen. Wear them all, wear them well and wear them out.

I see Bob's death has you feeling something similar to what I felt like when my golfing buddy Jorge Camacho died, Bo.

Ana didn't want to take her Optimo Milan to Acapulco on our last trip. I asked her what the difference was between her having and not having that hat if she didn't enjoy it. She took it with her.

Today I wore the ultralite Parkway. The softest, lightest, most malleable felt I own or have owned.

Unfortunately, even that could not cheer me up.
I woke up yesterday to a text from my brother in law that he had called the ambulance after not being able to wake my younger sister at 3 AM, and that she was admitted to the hospital from the ER. She left work last Tuesday because of severe headaches which persisted unabated into Wednesday, when she scheduled an appt. with a family practice, which was a new one because of a job and insurance change.
At the Thursday morning visit the doctor said it was a viral infection which would have to run its course, prescribing narcotic cough syrup to help her sleep. Jim had driven her there, so took her home and went to work. When he got home she was sleeping. He thought that was good. She needed the rest. Friday morning she was sleeping soundly and he left her undisturbed, going to work.
Friday evening she was sound asleep when he got home and he became concerned. He called the doctor and was assured everything was fine. Give it a couple more days.
At 3 AM noticced her breathing was very shallow so got up, checked phone and laptop, and the cough syrup. She'd had one dose of the latter, and no communication with anyone since 2 PM Thursday. She wouldnt wake up.
She was in a coma, and may have been since Thursday. By 10 AM the diagnosis was confirmed as meningitis and her blood pressure was dropping. Platelets in her IV feed stanalized the blood pressure, and we at the hospital relaxed a little, while we updated relatives around the country.
In the evening her eyes were found to be dilating, indicating swelling of the brain. We were told she migjt not make it through the night
A vigil of prayer followed, and when her vtals remained unchanged in the morning, we sighed in relief, however when the attending doctor arrived at 8 AM and examined her we learned the brain swelling was undiminished. She would prbably not revive from the coma . If she did, it would be with significant brain damage.
I'm home now for a shower and power nap, but will then return to the hospital where we will admit her to hospice.
Prayets for my family from any loungers who talk with with the Man Upstairs would be very welcome.

Bailey's and eggs, Jeff?

I thought I’d give it a try. I’ve only ever had Bailey’s in an Irish coffee but I had already drank the liter of coffee this morning. I will definitively say I do not like Bailey’s on the rocks at all, and it shall remain my week-of-Christmas Irish coffee ingredient only.
