Wanted to get feedback from riders on how they like the Schott Horsehide 689H with regular collar. Is it comfortable in riding position and is it too hot in summer? Thanks guys

I have a Schott 689H collared jacket in my "fleet". Beautifully made I must say.

I also have a Schott 641HH "no collar" Café racer. Also beautifully made.

Both are stock off the rack Schott 44" , but the 689H is noticeably "neater" than the 641HH

Why ? I assume a quirk of the different model jackets. Both "fit" me just differently.

For me the most comfortable is the 641HH ( may be my corpulent self of recent haha..)

Here in Perth Western Australia , both are "too hot" for our summer riding , then I use my Vanson Comet ( and others !)

OR my ( that looks a lot like the Schott 689H !) vent zippered Vanson Sturgis !

Actually , in high summer here , at 35C+ , most leather jackets are "too hot" for traffic light stops !

As we are now entering our "winter" , 4C at 8AM and 18C by 1PM both Schott variants are PERFECT

I owned a 698H for years. I wore it as a daily wear fall and winter jacket and not a riding jacket but the bi swing back was nice for mobility and the quilted lining makes it kind of stiff but warm. For sure too hot in the summer since it is insulated. I wore it down to -30 C as a winter coat but I run hot.

I sold mine because I bought it a size too large but if it fit I'd still have it in the closet.

Also, do not for one minute believe the Schott website sizing tips when they say buy a size larger. I did that and of course, it was too big.

Thanks brothers. It's a damn fine jacket and they seem to hold their value really well. I'll also have to figure out what to get for late spring/summer, because I'd like to have some protection on the road. Vansons are really nice, but I'm personally not a big fan of the cafe style collar so I'll be on the hunt for something light for the hot & humid Pennsylvania summers.

Tbh in the summer there are better choices than leather. Most lack adequate venting. An exception to that would be vansons perforated jackets which are good for riding and silly off the bike.

I hear that. Would prefer something that I could wear off the bike.

Very good advice, I too followed the one size up recommendation and regretted it. I still have mine and use it on my bike with a forcefield shirt underneath. The Schott HH takes a long time to show wear if that’s your thing but your persistence will be rewarded!

Wore my own 689H to ride my Harley down the coast with my biker crew yesterday.

3C at 7AM , only 17C by mid day ! Even sitting at the seaside café we ALL kept our jackets on .

Usually we bolt to get the jackets off and over the back of a chair ASAP we park up the bikes.

I was thinking yesterday AM as I "suited up" before departure ,

" Chit man that is a COOL jacket..." ( While actually being quite warm haha...)

This jacket is essentially identical to my Vanson Enfield, with zipped pockets and quilted lining. Love the Enfield and it's probably cooler than the Schott without the insulated lining. It's definitely tough leather as it saved my skin during an "unscheduled get off" if you know what I mean. And Vanson's customer service is second to none. They repaired the jacket in record time after my get off. It has a nice cut and is very flattering to my body shape. It's a 38; I'm 5'7", 155. Only thing I wish it had was the zippered pockets like the Schott. But it does have inside pockets though.

I too love my Vanson Enfield. Even though I rode with a crosszip for years, I found myself grabbing my Enfield much of the time. More casual. Not so hardcore. I don't care for zippered hand warmer pockets that can scratch and scuff stuff up. The Enfield configuration is good enough for me.

I picked up a 689H recently, and I really like it. It fits very well (I sized down) and is satisfactory in weight and thickness, and is well made, and it looks good on me. I agree with the comments above that it is too warm for a summer jacket. I'm looking forward to putting more wear on it and developing creases and knocking some of the new off of it.

What size did you pick up?

Just keep looking mate, they do come up both here on the Forum (where I bought mine used 3 months ago, thanks Alex Lutov from Russia !) and on eBay

My 641HH was brand new from a Schott reseller on eBay USA ( California to be precise ), couple of years back.

Indeed I think I will wear my 689H to work tomorrow , to be 10C at 7AM and 24C by 1PM

Guppy, can you please supply measurements on the 40? I had a 42 and it was way too big so I sold it on after fighting with it for years. I have wanted another as it is a good cold weather jacket.

If you bought a 40 I'd probably be a 38. I think your just a bit bigger in size than I am.

Sure, can do.

P2P: 22.5", maybe 23" if I really flatten it out.
Shoulders: 19"
Back: 25.25"
Sleeve: 24.5"
Waist: 19"

My current measurements at 5'9" 160lbs

chest: 42" (expanded)
waist: 34"

It's a good, snug fit, feels like it was made for me.
