I was in LA in February and got to try on a couple of leather trucker jackets. Of course, I had to go all matchy-matchy with my trousers. Both would look better with denim.

The first was by Best Made Company. It's made of a reasonably heavy roughout leather and is unlined. The cut was a bit boxy, but I could have tightened up the side adjusters.

The guy in the shop had the older version, which he said had darkened with wear.

The second was the RRL Suede Type II. The leather was a lot thinner than the Best Made Co, but the details were better and the cut was a lot more fitted. It was a lot more expensive, but they're on sale now (with an extra 30% off this weekend). I'd still probably get the other one, though.

I'm no expert on older Levi's jackets - or any at all, outside of the ones that I've seen - but I do know that their vintage jackets (like the one in the listing) are very desirable nowadays. Shorthorn stuff is generally regarded as being of high quality and is always sought after, hence the price. The jacket in question is split suede, that's what I can tell you, that appears to be very thick, judging by the photos of the inside of the jacket. It's a beautiful jacket that appears to be in a great condition, in any case.

It's hard to give a definite answer about the quality of Levi's leather stuff, how much it varied throughout the years. Early 2k stuff that I've seen has been abysmal. Their most recently released leather trucker though is such a good jacket that I'd place it right there near the very top. It's a genuinely good jacket and they've nailed the fit like they haven't in decades.

The 90's stuff is good, too. I've had 10 or so truckers from that era and while the fit was... Well, utilitarian, so to call it, the leather and construction was fantastic.

So it all varies. But Shorthorn stuff is good.

Keep in mind that it's an ooold jacket. Stitching might turn to dust the moment you put it on.

If it would be half the price offered and if it would be located in Europe I would definitely give it a try...probably the risk for such an old jacket is too high even if I like this one a lot and the fit would be also quite good. Don't miss out on this jacket just 'cause I said something. Maybe nothing's wrong with the jacket. These Shorthorn jackets are really nice! Look at how many people are watching it. Trucker's currently in demand, it'll only go up in price, at least for a little while.
