I just e-mailed Aero about the russet vicenca A-2 on their sale page. I also bought two other A-2s in the past 3 month. Growing fond of the style. Was a struggle to decide between the Vanson Model C and this A-2 but while the C is five times cooler than the A-2, the later just wears so much easier and I love the easy access to the A-2 pockets and how you can stuff your things in there without yourself in the jacket looking like a snake that swallowed something too large and now has a bulge in the stomach area.
Edit; Did I mention I bought a RL Barnstormer with shawl collar and everything for 10% of retail price. Slightly distressed leather but nicely done and it's cowhide and has quite the heft to it for a fashion brand jacket.

Snagged this beauty over the weekend - a mint Hercules, circa 40's. It was listed as horsehide, however the Hercules label doesn't state the type of leather unfortunately. I'm hoping this a true vintage 48, and will fit like a 44/46.

Haven’t seen one like that before. Looks good irregardless of the type of hide. BTW, the Hercules Steerhide is great stuff too.
Good to know about the Hercules steerhide! I only collect vintage leathers, and this is my first Hercules... I have high expectations for it.

I'm 99.9% certain that's goathide. Would account for the near new condition of the jacket, too. Only goat could last that long without showing it. Tremendous hide.

I'm glad you guys mentioned that, I did wonder about goat - the immense amount of pebbling of the hide definitely leans that way. Considering this would be my first goathide jacket - does goat not patina/wear the way cow/steer/horse typically does? Is it as "tough" as horsehide?
It’s certainly every bit as tough. Actually probably tougher. I think the patina is where goat shows the least amount of development. I have seen some heavily patina’d goat. But it’s seemingly very hard to achieve.

As tough as horsehide? Look at that jacket. If that is not some one off Bill Kelso reproduction or something but actually a 40s original, you got your answer. Gl finding a 80 years old horsehide jacket looking brand new like that.

What Ton and JJ said. Goatskin is an extremely tough leather - people who work with leather grade it above any other hide - and it handles water better than both cow and horse. But yeah, the "problem", so to call it, is that it doesn't age/patina as quickly as cow/horse thus it's not as popular, at least not around these parts.

I had something like this in mind.Aero 50's Deluxe Half Belt in the darkest cordovan colour possible.As I understand it cordovan is a section of horse hide used primarily for shoes but I think Aero and others use it to describe the colour.

Holy crap---- WOW!!!!
Jackets are not made from shell cordo b/c the cut is too small. Codo I’m jacket manufacture refers to the color. A rich burgundy, with lots of red brown and purple. It’s beautiful stuff.

Picked up this vintage late 60's era Brooks from the original owner this week. This jacket has the embroidered Brooks label and the not-often-seen (imo) quilted liner. It also has gold thread throughout, which gives the jacket a little extra pop.

If it's specifically for biking, I recommend not buying some repro makers jacket but check out makers specialized on biking, the usual suspects named here are Vanson (pretty awesome for off the rack jackets), Langlitz (more expensive but full bespoke) or Johnson Leather (their website sucks but they do awesome work and can do pretty much anything you ask for with a wide range of leathers and linings. Check their instagram).
