Khakis - which ones?

Curious, because I sometimes wear a pocket watch.

Thanks for taking the time to look at our website. Our products are designed here in Boise and sewn in a facility in China. We use the same modern facility that produces such popular brands as “Lee”, “Wrangler”, “North Face”, and “7 for All Mankind” as well as many others.

I realize that having products manufactured overseas is a negative for some customers and I appreciate their sentiments and all the reasons for them. Trust me, I would love to own and operate our own factory right here in Idaho, but right now we just don’t have the million or more dollars to open such a facility.

When choosing a manufacturer, we looked closely at many companies, including US companies. In the end, we decided to go with the one that provided us the highest quality production sample. It was not the cheapest and we’re proud of the quality of our products.

As to the sizing, we currently only offer even sizes 30 thru 40. I started and financed this company completely out of my own pocket. I produced the sizes that would fit the majority of consumers and allow us to get the company started. In the future we hope to provide larger sizes in our product line. There is definitely a market for them.

The tone of your question suggested that you were looking for reason to discount my trousers in some way in an open forum. I understand that there are consumers who wish to purchase US made goods only and I respect that. Keep in mind that other brands mentioned in this thread as quality products, Orvis and Eddie Bauer, are also manufactured overseas. Bill’s are made in the US and are excellent. We make a habit of steering our “US made” customers to them whenever possible.

Sorry to offer such a long answer to a short question, but it is important information. In the end it’s always about choice. We have a large and growing list of satisfied customers, some members of this forum. If our trousers are not to your liking for some reason, you are certainly not required to buy or wear them. But please give others the opportunity to judge for themselves with an open mind. If I perceived your question incorrectly, then please accept my apology.

Hate to admit it but I just got a nice pair of very high waisted and wide legged trousers from Abercrombie and Fitch. They really sit higher than my bellybutton. Rather strange since the brand seems to be aimed at the yuppie/douchebag crowd nowadays and recently got a shitstorm after a ridiculous interview of their CEO.
Since they were from ebay I can't really tell if they still have them in the actual collection. I am rather sure they have not and couldn't be arsed to get into one of their horrible stores.

Just sharing this since the cut is really great and hard to find in mdoern brands nowadays. A few weeks ago I got a pair of dockers chinos in the "same size" but they were unwearable slim. Oh my... I was ashamed to look into the mirror with those pants on.



PS: Mods, is this the biggest chinos/khakis thread? Maybe make it a sticky?

I wear chinos more than any other type of pant so in order to keep from having to wash clothes several times a week I have 8 pair. This being the case I couldn't afford that many pair of $100 pants so I stick with Dockers in the D1 fit for casual wear or D2 for professional use. Can get three or four pair of them for the same $100.

I totally agree!! After many trials and errors, I found my Chinos in Bills Khakis.
Mostly I wear the Original Twill in 8,5oz in color khaki, british khaki and - next - in color mushroom.

I am a 38"-waist-guy and prefer the M2 (standard) fit - roomy, 0.5 -1" under the belly botton, without beeing too baggy and drapes very well.
My first Bills was the M1 - fresh outa the box its a great feeling with high rise over the navel - just a bit higher and roomier but after a day of wearing they look and feel too roomy for my taste.

The next will be the Bullard Field Pants - sounds like the Front Quarter Horse hide in Bills range of chinos.
I also think about to purchase Bills Poplin - but I fear it will wrinkle too much and it might look cheap... don't know...better go with the high-end long lasting Chinos

I'm with you on the Bills Khakis Windward. Great quality and a good rise, I've got two flat front pairs, one in grey, and a heavier one in tan. They cop a fair amount of abuse and take it well. I too am intrigued by the Bullard Field Pants, and would like to try a pair soon.

I'm with you guys-I have five pairs of Bill's Khakis; the oldest pair is around three years old and just starting to show wear around the pockets and cuffs. The khaki color is pretty consistent vintage compared to original (including the button fly version), but, the navy is not. I'm trying to find the Bullard pants locally to get a feel for the difference; if y'all get a pair I would like to read the review.

Will do Doug. I'm thinking I might pull the pin on a pair of Bullards come winter - it's the blazing hot summer here at this time of the year
and not heavy weight trousers time!

Same here Benny - the mercury rises most up to 43C/109F for Christmas :flame:-
but nevertheless I feel fine with Bills Twill - imagine all the people who wearing 15oz jeans all the time...:eeek:

John Lofgren has made the best this year.

I got the Bullards M2 a month or so ago and am pretty impressed. Not as heavy or thick as hyped, but definitely more than your average bear. I'm tempted to go for the olive as well now, so that's a good sign.

I like the 5.11 in khaki and charcoal. Can't beat the fit and the pocket space. The elastic in the waistband makes for comfortable IWB if that's your pleasure. I usually get them from Midway.

Fellas--after three years of almost constant wear (at least several days per week), my first of Bill's Khakis started to fray at the cuff and pocket. So I turned the loss into a positive and bought the Bullard field pants from Bill's Khakis. Now, I have owned everything from Orvis to the Gap khakis...I have also had Atlantic Rancher khakis when they were available--those were the best pants I had ever owned and wish the brand would come back! But these Bullard pants are definitely worth a look and a buy! Not only are they similar (almost exactly the same feel and finish!) to the Atlantic Rancher pants, they are solidly built and have a nice hand compared to the regular Bill's original twill and the vintage twill. Yes, they are a tad bit heavy, but, they should be considering they are billed (no pun intended) as field pants. Would I wear them to church? Yes! Would I wear them out on a date with my wife? Absolutely! Would I wear them to hunt birds during dove season? Give me a couple years to get back with you--I think they are too nice to call a field pant a the moment...but, yeah, they would hold up to South Texas thorny plants. Here is the real question--would I buy them again? yeah I would!

Follow up on an ancient thread: just got these Bill Khakis cord pants, totally on a hunch, man what a turn out, so comfortable & well made!! One day shipping too (I live nearby though). they are pretty high waisted, I feel secure, shirts are tucked in, & they slightly stretch.
