Returning his jacket will make him nervous and maybe he will no longer write

Contact eBay pronto before the buyer opens some kind of dispute, tell them exactly what has happened & emphasize that you are now being hassled by the buyer demanding compensation for damages he caused on an item that both you & the said buyer upon receiving it, considered undamaged & in working order. You should be fine. If the worst comes to the worst, you can engage your seller protection program & report the buyer which will damage his eBay ratings & reputation.

Remember too that all messages between you & the seller through eBay may be consulted by eBay reps, so keep them as polite & professional as possible & try to gear them in such a way as to show your willingness to resolve this problem amicably whilst insisting that the buyer is in the wrong. Ebay hates conflict but it loves communication. ;)

Somewhere one has to draw the line and it's way before this bullshit. I work in retail and I've found valium helps tremendously ;)

I had something even worse than this happen a few years back. I also had someone try something like this on Facebook through a fragrance sale. I would say you should just tell him to shove it especially after he already left positive feedback.

If it arrived like that why leave good feedback, he’s cleary worn it for 20 days then gotten the zipper stuck or similar then buggered the whole thing trying to unzip it, these repo Talon zips have to be treated carefully from my experience when you zip and unzip them I’m going to assume this guy wasn’t careful and is now looking at me to fund the repair, the fact that he’s trying to imply it arrived faulty and “possibly he didn’t notice for 20 days” leaves me to believe which direction this will go, he was a nut job from the get go and it’s still going with this guy, I’ll close my EBay account cancel my credit card and PayPal account if I have to doesn’t bother me, EBay used to be ok for selling stuff it’s now a shit show for sellers.

The more I think about it...the guy has no chance at a determination in his favor. The ebay rule is 14 days. Which is frankly still far too long. Had he mentioned this within 24hrs of delivery I would entertain the possibility of having missed something (maybe). After nearly a month though? No way ebay finds in his favor, no way. I know other forums compose a list of "villains" buyers or sellers who are just that. This certainly qualifies as villainous behavior on the buyers part.

Yeah, ignoring the douchebag is the best advice anyone could give you. eBay will side with you on this one, there's no other way to go about it.

He gave you a positive review meaning the jacket reached him as described. Positive feedback is an acknowledgement by the buyer that you've honored your end of the deal. End of story.

I've had a case where a buyer started whining that the jacket faintly smells of perfume, 20 days after getting it. Wanted to send it back then and when I refused, started a case. eBay immediately closed the case in my favor even though technically, they could've decided either way.

The jacket didn't smell, of course. It was just a case of a buyers remorse gone bad.

Just imagine how even more frustrating it would to be working retail staff and have to deal with similar and even dumber returns and complaints... with your job on the line.

I went through that for years. Seemed the best solution was to cave in and thus get them out of the store through appeasement. If you barked back you'd be locked in a verbal shooting match which was how many employees got into trouble. I avoided that (mostly). I was the Neville Chamberlain of shoes. Had the occasional shoe box thrown at me from the irate customer...and watch out for Sunday morning moms on a return binge. They like to express their unhappy marriage through employee abuse and shifty return nonsense.

I sold something on eBay and was left positive feedback. they may even refund him without needing to return the item, yes you read that correct. As I said, I sold the item, buyer and I left positive feedback, then 6 months down the line the buyer told them it was bought with an unauthorised card.
As this was an international dispute the buyer was allowed to keep the item. Ok it was fairly low value but I was steaming especially as the buyer would then not answer any of my eBay questions on why they had left good feedback.

These people with such a massive sense of entitlement (and dishonesty also) are the worst to deal with.

Sadly I believe even with a positive feedback the 60 days term to open a dispute still applies. I believe though you are in a strong position. This kind of damage can’t happen in transit. PayPal Seller protection should have your back.

My recent eBay nightmare was a customer pretending a return and refund due to the item not being as described (he was claiming that I dyed the trousers I sold him of a different colour myself which was absolutely not true). eBay resolved the case in his favour but he never sent the item back so I believe he got refunded by eBay and kept the item too. I kept the payment as well as you lose it only when the returned good reaches you. Still an unnecessary hassle for £30. The buyer has all the power on eBay.

Correct. I was a victim of two fake returns for fake reasons. Never got the items back - the buyers kept the items and got refunded by Ebay. Oldest scam going - wondering if Ebay is doing something about it. I doubt it. I told them about buyers scams in feedback. Maybe my 100% Positive rating with 300+ transactions will count for something. A guy like me, 12 years at Ebay, 100% positive rating, 300+ transactions vs some fly-by-night buyer with 98% Positive, 30 transactions - and they still still side with him and pay him off. Must be policy.

Do you have the pics you used for the ad? Do they show the zipper? Any other pics or close-ups? These will stand in your favour. Agree, to contact Ebay and PayPal and state your case.

You are in a good position but it will be an annoying process. He left positive feedback which confirms the item was sold as described, ensure you mention this in all your emails as it might get glossed over. Ensure and state that you still have photos of the jacket including the undamaged zipper from before the sale and dont give in. Emptying your ebay account is one thing but also, remove the link to your credit card and bank account as well. Your should win this but ebay does bring you into contact with people trying to screw you over unfortunately.

Ebay, and Paypal, are so anti-seller it is ridiculous. I'd like to see some anti-trust regulations get involved and split their interests. It'll never happen, but it needs some serious alteration by an outside force. All a buyer has to do is change their mind, while sellers have to jump through hoops, many of which are impossible, to stake a rightful claim in the process. The post office is no better. You might as well not bother with special services or insurances. By the time they've ran you around a few times, they're well aware it isn't worth your time. They have attrition on their side. People who sell on ebay for a living work like dogs and are shown no respect by the main players in the process. I used to sell here and there, but I don't bother at all anymore. It isn't worth the headache or losing money to a fickle buyer.

There are some A-rated turds out there for sure. My sister sells perfume on Ebay and has been scammed once or twice. Fortunately in the last case Ebay sided with her but it's frustrating for sellers having to deal with duplicitous characters day in and day out.
