Captain Obvious' Genius Cheapo Hanger Hack for Jackets

The issue with most hangers, including the wide-shouldered and the pool-tube-life-hacked variety, is that they feature an aggressive downward slope which is not conducive for storing leather jackets.

Aero makes a gently sloping specialty leather jacket hanger, but it seems to be perpetually sold out.

The best solution I have found thus far is the Underwater Kinetics “Super Hanger”. It is one of the most substantial hangers available (rated at 20 Lbs), and features a very gentle slope similar to that of the Aero hanger. It’s available on Amazon for $9.25 with free Prime shipping.

First thumbnail is the Aero Leather Hanger, second is the Underwater Kinetics Super Hanger. Hope this helps someone.

Hmmm... I guess match the slope to the jacket, maybe? I’d heard a flatter hanger was kind of universally better for heavy leather, but I wonder if the key isn’t just to get as much of the jacket supported as possible- if that means a traditionally sloped hanger, so be it.

My jackets seem to have pretty squared shoulders, so I do notice that they hang “cleaner” on flatter hangers. But I can certainly see traditionally sloped hangers working better for jackets with more slope to the shoulders.

I guess like most things, YMMV...

At any rate, if one does need a flatter hanger and doesn’t want to wait on the Aero, the UK Super Hanger is pretty great.

Some folks didn't cared for it because they were concerned it wasx too slim back to front and would leave a mark on the jacket. I'd be inclinedc to trust the Aero hanger on the basis that that's what they use in the factory showroom and those jackets all semed fine to me - ymmv.

I bought one for each of my jackets and they're fine, I don't find them too thin and they haven't left any marks in the six months or so I've been using them - for heavier jackets I've taped a bit of pipe lagging around them.

They get rid of the big creases that runs parallel to the lapels, making your jackets look new old stock for longer I suppose, not that the creases bothered me until Aero pointed them out.

I’d like to walk-back my endorsement of the Underwater Kinetics Super Hanger... It’s certainly flat, but too narrow for many jackets. Appears it could cause shoulder bumps. I’ll hold off on anymore hanger suggestions until I have a bit more knowledge, ha ha.

That Aero hanger is not worth the hype and a real waste of $$. The hooked wire part needs to be 1" - 2" longer so your jacket collar can actually fit and not be squashed by the bar going across the closet that the hanger itself hangs from.

I ended up using mine for hanging cycling bib shorts since it is a straight hanger, my bibs won't slip off.

my sloping hanger does that to my square shoulder denim jacket, and so I hang it backward, so the hanger arching forward a bit and give much better support around the shoulder and collar, also much easier to get the jacket off the hanger hahaha

On the left the hanger is used normally on a square shouldered jacket, on the right is backward.
