My Frye harness boots, pictures don't show the rich color of the leather. Turned over to show the extra leather on the soles. It appears to be original and not cobbled on or resoled. These are the older made in USA model. My daughter spotted them few years ago at a Thrift store called Goodwill. $50.00.
Show them if you got them!

I’m glad you dragged this thread back to the top Dav because I’ve got something to add.
Last Monday I got not one, but two new pair of Wesco engineer boots.

I had been looking at the pair on the right for weeks now on the Iron Heart outlet page. They are Wescos made from Burlap rough out leather and they were on sale for $250 off the original price.

No sooner had I purchased that pair though, when I received an email from my friends at Standard & Strange. They had a new Wesco model, the 7500, made with British tan leather.

Now this was a boot I had been dreaming about for sometime and contemplating a custom order. When I got the email and saw they were in size at the store near my house I couldn’t resist. Just like that I had two brand new pairs of engineer boots in one day. Both fit well, albeit a bit differently, and I am looking forward to seeing
How they look with a bit more wear.

would be curious to see how that pale rough out boots would look after some wear. first few "characters" would be painful I imagine before it would be norm.

navetsea,
I too am very curious. They are kind of funky as it is so pale and brand new. I’m thinking about giving them a treatment with the Wesco boot oil just to darken up the leather a bit.

Nice stuff El Marro.

So if I am understanding this correctly, the 7500 just a 7400 with a more narrow shaft?

I was going to order my 7400 pair with 1/2" - 1" taken out of the shaft circumference. They offer that as a regular option.

Just like a 7400 is a Boss built on the MP last so Wesco is just renaming something that can already be had I guess.

I assume your 7500 will fit under slim fitting jeans no problem?

So basically I'd be getting what they call a 7500 now, except I'll ditch the standard Boss top adjust strap and get the motorcycle patrol type top adjuster strap instead.

Colin,
I think you’re absolutely right about the difference between the 7400 and 7500. I cannot confirm that they fit well under slim fitting jeans since I do not wear slim fitting jeans. I’m pretty sure they will though because of the shaft is substantially slimmer than that of my 7400. To be honest if it was any slimmer I think I would have trouble getting my foot into the boot.

The British Tan is GORGEOUS!
Tell me about it, they are even nicer in person, a bit lighter and the color changes as they flex and move. I first saw this leather when Wesco came out with their hundredth anniversary series of boots last year. None of them really grabbed my attention though and I passed on the chance to order a pair. As often happens I realized once it was too late that I really, really, really wanted some boots in the British tan! Fortunately a lot of others must have shared that sentiment because Wesco is now making this model as a stock option.

Recently saw some Wescos at around the four hundred dollar mark, selling through a US stockist. Are these a cheaper line, or...? I'm also tempted by the Whites Nomads increasingly, but the lack of opportunity to try before I buy (no UK stockists) is off-putting, especially as I read all sorts of advice online about sizing which conflicts.
Edward, have you not tried SJC's engineers? I am sure that you must have, in a choice of colours, made to an original pattern. Think I might be teaching you to suck eggs here.

Picked up a pair of the oxblood ones a couple of years ago, but unfortunately Simon hasn't yet done more. They really are nice; I've not tried Wescos or the really high end bits, but the SJCs are at least as good as Red Wing, Chippewa, anything in the sub £400 range.
