Bit of an update on the Wayfarer. It's been wiped it down with a damp cloth a couple of times, allowed it to dry and then baked it in the sunniest window I could find. Had one slight meltdown when dye from the soaking wet strap on a laptop bag transferred on to the jacket - I've got over it, but blimey you could have heard me yelling across the city - but wiping and tanning has faded the marks and it's developing a really nice honey-tawny tone that I'm not sure I've really captured, but here you go...

Nope, I was right, I've not got the warmth of the colour at all. It's got a slight truck driver's tan on the arms, as you'd expect, but that will even out with time.

Looking very nice! It is getting there.
Any idea what Tenjin uses on their natural horsehide? What conditioner/oils?

I'm really not sure. At the moment, I've not done anything more than wiped it down with a wet sponge and left in the sun. The leather feels fine, so I'm not going to do anything with it in terms of conditioner or whatever. I think it's pretty robust stuff and still feels as supple as when I got it. I'm going to wait for another run of sunny days, just to give it another *bake* to even up the backs of the arms.

I too am baking it in the sun, when the sun is out.
It is amazing how quickly the color changes.

Same raw Italian horsehide (not Vicenza) as Sloan1874's Wayfarer, but in the form of a Barnstormer jacket. Been tanning for about a week on and off, in the Pacific NW. I was gonna use the belt as a controlled variable to see the difference but gave up after a few days, so its lighter than the jacket but darker than original. Will do more tanning and then a few coats of oil. I'm hoping for a vintage russet color when all is said and done and then a few coats of beeswax.

It actually doesn't take a scorching sun to set the darkening process in motion. I've had my jacket spatchcocked on the southern-facing dining room table for a week now, just to even-out the colour under the arms and collar, and even though it's not really been sunny - actually we had two days of torrential rain - there's been a definite darkening. Still waiting for that extra sunny day that I can get it out into the back garden to let it just bake.

Going to call Epaulet tomorrow to get some details for one of their unfinished HH CR jackets. After seeing the Aero aged tan Plainsman in the Classifieds, and several other jackets over time, my holdout has weakened and possibly broken altogether.

@Kuro, why not go straight to Aero? I am pretty sure Aero stock this leather as standard. If you need help with sizing, order through Thurston Bros
no real benefit to ordering the epaulet version..

Aero do stock it now, so unless you were in the US and wantedc to go through Insurrection for the sizing, most places I'd just go direct.

Mate, I'll take it to Taipei with me. About ten days in late July/ August and it'll be indistinguishable from russet.
