Linen Summer Jacket?

Agreed completely. And the reason why I dismissed a linen suit straight away is precisely because of that. Suits look just plain bad when crumpled. So my reasoning is, a more casual style at least won't be visually affected by crumpling.

Thing is, summers are really tough for me. I'm one of those people who can't stand hot weather. It's killing me so I desperately need to do something about my summer wardrobe (which mostly consists of T-shirts) and that something is linen. I've discovered it only recently but it really is a miracle of a fabric. At least for me. Just that it doesn't come in as many variations as cotton hence this thread. Suit jackets seem to be most common which is okay but you really have to wear them over something and that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Getting rid of cotton altogether during the summer. That's my mission.

This just might be it. Thank you!!

I read linen is 3x tougher than any cotton. Don't know if it's true but that sounds like a good deal any way you look at it.
Linen shirts, short sleeves, baggy shorts and light, slip-on footwear. A linen cap is also a good idea. When you are all geared up, apply beer.

Short trousers are one thing I'll never have a use for; no matter how hot it is, light linen or cotton full-length trousers are the better option. (Especially for the avoidance of melanomas). Course, I have been known to occasionally partially expose just my kneecaps in Summer - sometimes when my skin-tags make trousers just too painful in extreme heat (for me that's anything over 30 celsius), the kilt (with proper kilthose to keep the Sun off my lower legsa, of course) is a great answer.

I wear linen trousers in summer in warm and humid weather in Barcelona without problem. Irish linen is king when it comes to linen, heavy linen wears better and looks better.

I've seen that BK linen jacket and it's very nice but it's pointless. A linen jacket for summer with liner? No, thanks. It's useless.

I have cotton and linen jackets for summer. Seersucker is also really nice.

I've got quite a few nice sack coats from japanese brands for that early 20th century look but I'm sure none of you want something like that :D

I don't see any problem with linen shorts or canvas as long as they're long and full cut like the WW2 or 30-40s.

I've picked up a few very nice, light-weight "work coats" on the J Crew Sale and Factory pages over the past year or so. A couple are linen and one is made of an Italian cotton that's so light you hardly notice it when you have it on. They seem to have big sales on these pages every weekend, and I've picked mine up for much less than $100.00.
I've also been incredibly lucky on Etsy lately, picking up some '50's and '60's super-light, camp-collared, square-hemmed shirts. It's often hit-or-miss on Etsy or Ebay, but snagging something really nice is worth the effort, especially if you find a good deal. Just make sure you know your measurements.

I've seen linen trucker jackets on eBay. One example is from Murano Baird McNutt (odd name no?). Inexpensive too. It is on my watch list.

Totally agree. Adult men in shorts make me shudder - especially if they are tailored. Creepy and ugly to my eye. I live in a very hot place in summer. 115 degrees. I always wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Usually black. I have never had a problem with this and I walk everywhere, even in the blazing sun. I think desert Arabs got it right. Cover up. For a jacket some summer mornings I wear work wear unlined utility jackets like Dickies Eisenhower jackets.

Yeah, seconded. I can't stand short pants and don't wear them even when on the beach. I don't even know why, I just feel ridiculous in them. And I'm not any more fond of short sleeve shirts but it's the only thing I can think of wearing that won't cause a heat stroke. Summer is the worst...

There are a couple of linen trucker jackets on eBay. There's one RRL in size large but looks too baggy... There's another one on Etsy but sadly, in a size small. Looks okay, though!

I too absolutely cannot do short trousers unless I am at the gym, and even then I am searching for more pairs of sweatpants for that application. I think they look absolutely horrid and anyone. Obviously, this is just my subjective view, but I have never seen shorts look good. I don't just think they look bad on me, I think they look bad on everyone. I too have had to search for other types of summer clothing to try to cool off. I think a linen jacket is still too warm for me, but I am looking for linen shirts.

@Bennarion - Thank you tho I already dug those up. :D Kenzo was my first choice, I contacted the seller immediately but it's a blent of viscose and linen, Mulberry would've been perfect if the seller wanted to ship international (but doesn't want to) and the last one is really sweet but it's lined (and also UK-only auction).

Mulberry is spot on, tho...

Quite surprised by all the anti-shorts sentiment in this thread. When it comes to summer heat, I'm about comfort. Have for years worn only shorts once the day-time high hits 80. Still do so and I'm a 65 year-old guy.

Umm. I kind of surprised by the reaction to shorts too. Try an Asian summer without them, you'll change your mind.
I think it depends on the style and the whole look. Khaki loose shorts above the knee with a linen shirt is very cool, practical and smart.
I think that a lot depends on your overt 'masculinity' (for want of a better expression). If you're young, short, chubby (or painfully thin) or boyish looking, then it can look childish.
Like all distinctive looks, you need an air of casual assured confidence, or shorts will wear you, and everyone will know.
