JJ; I will presume hat you are asking about the silvermist hat pic I posted.
The silvermist was asked and delivered to be a light weight silvermist felted fedora. Michael has, IMO, evolved enormously in his pouncing skills. This hat is very well done. The quality is above the price of the hat. I do have other silvermist hats. One from a different bespoke maker and my experience is that the manufactures (Winchester) hood (raw felt) varies a lot in this color hue. The variances in density, hue, and the way the beaver hairs felt are noticeable, to even a layman as myself, in this hue. My Gannon is felted very light and is grand hat that works well in wamer weather. The trade-off is that the brim can become too malleable in hard rain or hard wind. Snow - no worries. I do not have a dress weight silvermist. Yet.
My experience has been that the lighter weight felts have, as they been worn, gotten to be better felted. The felt feels more even after rain, sun and snow exposure. The hairs, IMO, have gotten to be better meshed together and make a more supple, but still dense surface. All be it my hats wearings are gentle and less frequent wearing than as example my Grandfathers single hat at a time experiences, it still has matured the felting characteristics noticeably. On my next hats I will do a better job taking pics and measuring the felt characteristics and sharing the "age changes." I have no rabbit fedoras from bespoke hat artisians, so I can not comment to those felts.
This felt has a definite white/blue hue to it in a bight natural light. I have gray and a charcoal ribbon treatments on hats in this felt and enjoy them both. I asked for these combinations so as to lend the hat wearing to grays, blacks, as well as white and blue outerwear.
I like this hued felt.

Wow thank you for such a detailed response. I should have expected that a simple question would have such a complex answer on here, much appreciated. More information than I thought I needed! I was asking about the softness when you touch and eveness, I just have had bad experience with the hatter I used before with the rabbit fur felt and its not good felt and or not well pounced so that the finish is kind of long uneven hair (but not on purpose long hair felt)

Has anyone ordered a Gannon and shipped to Canada? I'm wondering if there are duties and taxes and how it works with NAFTA
I scoured the web and was unable to find a straight answer. Is it sufficient to have on the shipping box (USA TO CAN) made in the USA I guess on the customs form? And I won't be dinged with duties, just HST for my province?

I'm going to ask Michael to show me some pics of the liners he he has, he said he had white, black, brown. I saw some photos of Gannon hats with what looked to be very much purple but he said that it's the brown that looks purple in some lights. I really did like that if it does turn out to be purple-ish under some lights and would get that for my black hat and probably stick to white for the silvermist hat. I thought about doing the "purple" for the silvermist but now knowing it's brown it might be too much contrast.
What are y'alls thoughts?

That brown really looks purple under some lights, it's a nice brown though I think that would look beautiful in a black hat. Which is what I'm working on now (design wise). Just officialize-d my silvermist order with Michael, very excited.

Yes, in Blaine WA there are dozens of parcel depots and there is a steady stream of Canadians trouping down to Blaine each day to pick up parcels. I think it is an industry that keeps Blaine alive. (it used to be porn theatres so major upgrade!) Usually the Canadian border agents just waive me through after my verbal declaration of goods purchased. I suspect it is not worth their time and the cost to process such a small fee. Once I returned home with a few hundred dollars of bicycle parts, some US made some Japanese. The agent asked how much and country of manufacture. I honestly told him the mix of countries. We have no free trade with Japan. His reply was..."Well, for today's purposes we are declaring that they are all US made goods, have a nice day!" It is all pretty casual except for alcohol and tobacco....zero tolerance for that.
