A message from Aero:

OPEN DAY & SALE

We’re constantly being asked if we’ll ever have another open day, after the resounding success of our event back in 2016… good news is now is the time! We’re happy to announce there’ll be another Aero Open Day and sale in our factory in Galashiels on August 17th 2019 at 10am GMT.

We’re preparing to launch our new website and have a general clear out of stock ahead of doing some improvements to our factory showroom, so there will be plenty of bargains up for grabs. Everything in the factory… jackets, knitwear, footwear, denim, vintage, the whole lot… will be on special offer to make it a worthwhile trip for those of you who can join us!

Minimum discount will be 20% off list price.

For those who cannot make it on Sat 17th August, we will have a one day online sale beginning at 10am GMT Monday 19th August on remaining goods.

DEPOSIT SYSTEM BEING INTRODUCED FROM JULY 1ST

As of July 1st we will begin to take a 25% deposit on all custom orders , non-refundable, unless we fail to meet the agreed deadline.

This will be charged at time of the order being accepted, with the balance being charged when the jacket is ready to be shipped. Currently the wait time is around 6-8 weeks, but at peak season we will aim to make deliveries within 3 months (we will contact you to confirm the estimated delivery time when we receive your order).

We would advise anyone attending the sale to arrive early, and for the online sale anyone not on our system and intending to buy near the start of the sale to register before the day to save time on the day. The last time we had an sales like this nearly half the items sold in the first couple of hours!

I think, to be fair, there were people States-side who genuinely did stay up late for the start of the sale and bought *a lot* of stock very quickly. I went over to the factory mid-morning and a large chunk had already gone, mainly overseas customers, several hours before I got there! To quote that well-worn phrase, first coined by, I think it was, Plato: you snooze, you lose!
It should also be said that expectations were cranked-up online. Aero had not presented it as anything other than a clear-out of the stock that had been stolen from the factory a few years back along with some of the tail-end of the Will Lauder stuff. Unlike this one, it was never advertised as a successor to the 2016 sale.

I was on their website last sale as it went live ( pages updated as I was watching ) complete waste of my time, if there were any bargains or anything decent it certainly didn’t make it to their website

Well, I was in their showroom mid-morning on the day of the sale, and I just resisted buying an Indian Racer jacket. Beautiful jacket, the only thing that stopped me from doing so was that it wasn't quite me.
Bottom line is: you don't have to join the fun if you don't want to.

I was too, and there were at least 3 jackets that I thought were good deals, although I didn't buy any of them, as I didn't need anything. But I could have. The prices were lower than their usual sale page pricing.

I love the idea of this & would dearly like to participate. Unfortunately though if you do live on the other side of the world it feels like you're likely to get first shot at the stuff that no-one wanted on the day.
It'd be great to be able to access the stock at the same time as those who have the ability to turn up in person.
Now, having said all of that, I can completely understand that that might be logistically very difficult to actually manage.

Not even Savile Row takes orders on faith that the buyer will have the wherewithal to pay on delivery! I actually think this a good thing: instead of paying full-wack at the end, you can defray the cost over a few months' pay cheques.
I agree. It always struck me as exceptional that Aero did not require a deposit prior to commencing a custom order.

Makes sense to me. I've seen a lot of similar operations where you have to pay full whack right up front at time of ordering, too. Being able to pay the deposit and then the rest later, as Sloan says, does help to spread it out. Good idea. I imagined it's also designed to help where people try to get funny with them about sizing or whatever after the fact; I often suspect they still occasionally have to deal with folks who expect the overly-liberal returns policy that was in place prior to late 2011, which must have hurt them financially in those days.

I'd love to get up to the sale on 17 August, though I'm under strict orders from a Higher Power not to buy any more jackets til I clear a lot of stuff out.... I also need to lose a couple of stone. Got my eye on a pair of Shackletons when I do (one black, one brown).

IMHO it’ll do them good to cut their offering. There are too many similar styles offered and they can focus on improving further those that sell more.
