Me too, Stefan. Though I have ventured out in two. My Lock & Co and your Penumbra renovated. I now have five very nice bowlers. They deserve more headtime outside the house.

The seller didn’t know the size and claimed there wasn’t a tag under the sweatband. I knew the odds were astronomical that it would be in my size, but the seller offered it to me at a price I couldn’t refuse. I won’t keep it, but it was nice getting to hold it even if just for a short time.

I bought this old bowler hat at an antique store about 10 yrs ago. It was a perfect fit but the leather sweat band was falling out of it so I took it to Peter Bros Hats in Fort Worth Tx and had a new leather band put in.
It's a Dunlap brand hat. Still has the original liner. Best research I could come up with dates it to the early 1900s.

I wear a Stiff Felt a few times a month. Wearing a hat with a tall crown and a large brim draws more attention where I live.

Great Derby.Mayser "Stella Steif Federlicht / Stiff Feather Light" made for Huthase / Hat Hare, 58cm, 155 grams, possible 1930s. I was lucky because I noticed there was a lot of padding behind the sweatband. Also figured it was made by a high quality company which also turned out to be correct. This is a really fantastic Fur Felt (Haar.filz) Stiff Felt made by Mayser Ulm. I really like the dimension and form. The sweatband leather is especially nice and the fit is perfect. Huthase had stores in Dresden, Chemnitz, and Leipzig.

New here but I've noticed that most bowlers have a homburg like brim. Are they ever called homburg bowlers?

The brims, while both are curled and bound, are different. I’ve never heard the term “homburg bowlers,” except in ebay descriptions from sellers who don’t know much about hats.

Up to WWII most major Hat Factories made Stiff Felt Hats and Soft Felt Hats. The Stiff Felt Hat production and Soft Felt Hat production were separate. The brim work for Homburgs was somewhat similar but performed by separate departments.

The highest quality pre WWII Stiff Felts usually had superior components (Liner, Sweatband, Stamping, Printing) and brim work. All you have to do is look back through this thread.
