My third Freewheelers Jacket - The Mulholland

Hi, quick question if you don't mind -- how thick is that wool lining? It looks like you live in warm area too (I see palm trees). I'm in northern CA and I don't want anything too warm, looking for a new three season coat. My jackets with twill I'll wear a hoodie underneath on colder days and that's usually fine, but looks like I wouldn't need too on this one.

Thanks!

Well, this is a very happy day for me. There were always three Freewheelers jackets that I really wanted - The Caboose, The Sunset, and The Mulholland. I also wanted a Brakeman for a while, but trying one on in 2017 made me realize that it wasn't for me.

I know have all three of those Freewheelers jackets that I wanted. This one was meant to be for me. The jacket is completely sold out in my size in every store, but as luck had it, one in my size popped up here on the Lounge. I actually found it while just lusting after pictures of it on google images. Somehow I stumbled onto @cellini 's sale thread and saw that @GW KY bought it off him and then it didn't work for him.

Without hesitation, I contacted him and made sure I secured the jacket for myself. At under 10 wears, this jacket was basically heaven sent for me. My only real worry was that this was going to be the first black leather jacket I had bought in years and the last one I tried immediately went back.

It fits wonderfully. I am not sure if it fits better than the Sunset or not overall, but the sleeves definitely fit better. The construction is unsurprisingly stunning. The only "flaws" I have found so far are that in a couple places, the double stitching doesn't line up exactly, though it does in most places. I love that this is a "flaw" for Freewheelers. This jacket doesn't do anything to change the fact that Freewheelers makes the best stitched/constructed/finished jacket I have ever owned, seen, or handled, and I've handled most of them at this point. The intricacy and accuracy of their stitch work is so gorgeous that I actually sometimes just spend time staring at stitching on my Freewheelers jackets (and my White Kloud and Clinch boots).

This is the 9th Shinki jacket I have owned now. The leather is also gorgeous. Quite grainy in some areas and so far quite smooth in others, especially on the back. The teacore is already becoming obvious which will look great with my teacore Clinch engineer boots. Obviously there are more details that I will get into when I do a full written review on my website, but as of now I am thrilled to have this jacket. I adore the styling of it and the cut. The collar, the stitching on the handwarmer pockets, the bottom details and the cinches on the side, and the cut make it look special to me.

And now- too many pictures:

I try to wear these jackets for as long as possible before I give up over the summer! 30 Celsius yesterday and only linen worked!

20 Celsius, wow, that’s like 68 degrees. That’s t-shirt weather for me.

It's not that thick. It's also about adapting. I can easily wear this jacket in 68 degree weather. I know that this is t shirt weather for many, but for me, I am so used to warm weather that 68 is cool enough to wear all my jackets.

Wearing any leather jacket when it's 68 F ? No, thanks!)
But wearing wool-lined leather jacket when it's 68 F ?! Well, that sounds!))

My only guess is that over there they drive everywhere with the AC in the car, AC at work, AC at the stores...and so on.

I can't even wear a cotton/linen jacket in those temps let alone a leather jacket.

I can’t wear a jacket when temps get over 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Maybe denim up to 55. Anything north of that and I’m sweating. Hard.

Same here, brother. I know during periods your heat and humidity rivals ours. When I first started reading some of the threads here, thought I'd landed on a strange planet. Looking forward to 50's.

Oh man the humidity here can reach choke out levels...typically by August I’m the biggest asshole on earth, non stop complaints about how I just can’t stand it anymore. I couldn’t live without the four seasons. They just harmonize so well. The only one I never get sick of is fall. And sherry baby. LOL.

Even when it's cold out, I don't wear leather jackets in the car. I generally don't like wearing any jackets when driving.

I wear leather over long sleeve turtleneck when temps 26C, denim jacket when it is 30C over simple tshirt, when it is 16 17 18 C like now i wish i can wear gloves and still have a fine control on my hand. It is different from person to person depending on where you live and how much fat mantle you have.

I don’t have much fat mantle. LOL. Just that word is pure genius. But I sweat no matter what. T-shirt in summer, layers in winter. I’m just a sweaty ass ba***rd.

This is something that I guess I will never understand unless I move somewhere warm and stay for a while. At 16-17-18 C I will start sweating in my leather jackets, time to change to denim. 26 C is definitely t-shirt or linen weather. 30 C or above I’m busy trying not to die of a heatstroke.

Wow! That’s extreme! 26C degree feeling fine in leather is remarkable. What temperature do you need to feel comfortable on a beach and taking a swim? Like 65C??

This is a perfect example of the difference in environments making a huge difference in clothing choices/comfort. 26C is too hot for me to wear a jacket as well, but I can wear one comfortably under a short sleeve shirt or t shirt at 20C which is much to warm for many others. Some do shorts as soon as it hits 25C while I wear jeans and engineer boots in 46C (I sweat a lot, but i'd be sweating in shorts plus I'd be getting sunburned to death so...).
