Each to their own I guess. The trick that I have found to wearing a scented fragrance is not to overdo it. Just a couple of short presses on the plunger, no more. A small bottle will last me from one Christmas to the next. The fragrance that I use is called: Opium, it's YSL (Yves St Laurent,) product and it's by the Creative Fragrance Company, or CFL.
It's not a choice or an aesthetic. It's more like an allergy. Colognes and perfumes and other scents give me a sharp headache. They are extremely distracting when I am in a concert or movie (long exposure). They are shocking and unpleasant when I am exercising (why do people soak themselves with scents before hiking in the woods?).I don't understand where all the hate for fragrances came from. The 70's and 80's were epic for fragrances then all of a sudden it took on the roll of big tobacco.
As far as being in close quarters with other people and smells THE LAST odor I would complain about is cologne or perfume. Being from NYC and riding packed subways and walking crowded streets I really appreciate when someone uses a fragrance. I have smelled body odor and bad breath and dirty scalps near my nostrils.
Funny how some people who feel they don't need to " cover up " actually need too.
I've got a friend who says he doesn't need to shower everyday because his sweat is clean. YEAH OK !
