No inlay on the shaft. Kind of like the red ones in the first photo you posted. The brown ones had an extra row of buck stitching around the top, though. I can't remember if the lacing was contrasted or not. The brown was so dark that there was barely a noticeable difference between it and the black.

On a different note, I like the looks of the light color of the natural snake against the black, even though I'm not that particularly a fan of the snake. If they were smooth white leather, though, that'd be another story. I'd be all over something like that.

Late to the party but here's my Blucher Style 40's that I had made to measure in 1995. I paid a whopping $300, plus an extra $10 for the extra high tops (still have the receipt). I yanked out the pull straps--while I liked the vintage vibe of them, they were irritating to my legs. Had them resoled a couple of times, but don't really wear them anymore as they are pretty shot--mainly the insides are broken down and the leather is stretched out, but I can't throw them away

. Maybe the best boots I've ever owned.

Greetings All:
I got these boots awhile back on a whim. I thought the overlays were kinda cool and might make an interesting project to idk, strip and change color or something.
They are Code West boots. The leather is thick and seems nice but i’m not sure if they are worth the trouble.
Can anybody tell me if the brand is worth messing with or what’s involved in livening them up?
For all i know they may be just dumpster bait??

They look good. I've never owned a pair of Code West, but I've seen them in stores and handled them. I had a good friend who had a pair of black and white hair-on Holstein ones back in the early 90s that were pretty cool boots, and they held up for a long time. I was a little envious of those. He may even still have them. Most of the pairs I've seen were all leather construction and I think more or less middle of the road quality boots. Not expensive by any means, but not like the super cheap ones with the imitation leather shafts and soles. Not sure if they were foreign or domestic, or if the company is even still around.

Thought you might be interested, when I spoke with Smitty at Blucher he mentioned the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum has the Blucher day books, they were kind enough to send me a scan of the page for my boots. Matches the name the seller gave me.

Love the outline of the customers foot!

Thanks Rob. I did read this. Yeah, mid-road boots, nothing special. All the overlay/underlays made me envision something a bit more colorful if worked on.
Maybe i should ask here if there is a good way to strip the color off the bottoms then re-dye? Heck, my first thought was a Dremel tool but probably be hard on the stitching. Idk
Anybody have any tips or can point me in the right direction?
