Looks like a really nice time! I’m also liking the turquoise thing you have going there. I’ve only been through Sacramento once, even having grown up in CA, but never stopped to see anything cool like that.

I wasn't in Siena on July 2nd and I don't even have a hat on my head to show you somewhere afield, but I have a beautiful video to offer you: one directed from the "Giraffa" district that wins, in the last meter, running the Palio of 2 July dedicated to the Madonna of Provenzano.
Look calmly and at some point you will have the explanations in English of what happens in the winning district. You will see the feeling of the common people of the "Giraffa" Wonderful!
Remember that in Siena it is the horse that wins, not the jockey ;)

I have never been to Kansas City, and I have never had anything close to this kind of bbq. And I am kill-myself full right now. Wow.

Thanks for sharing. I may have to change what I am considering for breakfast now.

You can never go back when your senses are opened to excellent barbecue. I am salivating looking at your pics and recalling my fav barbecue joints. Enjoy KC Jeff!

Best, Eric -

I know exactly what you’re feeling right now! We spent the weekend in Garland TX. Garland? Why Garland? My daughter and her husband (Mississippi boy) moved there a couple of years ago.
This is me and Mrs. quik at the Intrinsic Smokehouse Brewery. Had to roll me out of that place!
AND... I couldn’t resist stopping at the Resistol/Stetson/Hatco outlet store. Wearing a new Stetson Excellent Quality Pinnacle 100% Beaver fedora in sage.

I think I found Fats Waller on the floor of Union Station, KC.

Also, while touring the Boulevard Brewing Company brewery, I was surprised by the Blue Angels out of nowhere. I still get giddy every time I see them, since the first time at Point Mugu when I was a kid.

I couldn’t go home without trying another infamous bbq joint.

Nobody stares when you wear a real hat in KC. At first that felt weird but then I decided I definitely prefer it that way. Many others wore hats of various styles, but none of these jazz cats at The Green Lady did.

I wish I had known you were going to be in town. I don't live in the city but the drive is not so far that I couldn't drive in & buy you a drink. Q39 has two locations & they're one of the best, but there are many more. Are you on vacation or playing music somewhere?

. Can't be Joe's KC. Looks like One of the Smokehouse locations or KC Masterpiece? When are you leaving? I just got in after being gone a couple of days, but if you're going to be around the rest of the wk that drink is on me.

It's cowtown country. Nobody gives it a second thought. And it's the Green Lady for jazz, Knuckleheads for blues. Try Juleps for handcrafted cocktails & 200 kinds of whiskey.

Oh man! I wish I had known this before. It was just a trip simply because I had 3 free days with no kids or gigs. I got back this morning but could have stayed another day. These drives are kind of spontaneous for me lately, but I will definitely be coming back to the area. 5 1/2 hours is a pretty doable drive.

I went to Q39 first, the original location so I’m told, in a small strip mall near Westport, then the Boulevard brewery, and then Jack Stack’s at the Freight House.

I only managed to get to the Green Lady but man I was impressed with the proliferation of live music and until so late, like an adult city.

I listened to a few sets from a jazz trio with guitar, and they sounded great, even if slightly sterile, but definitely knew what they were doing and had a real good swing feel.

I’ll let you know next time I come down, and take you up on that drink, and I’ll buy the second round!

Please do!

I could tell by the pics you were at the original Q39. The 2nd location hasn't been open too long & they took over a BBQ place called Haywood's after it closed.

Jack's Stack & Smokehouse are owned by members of the same family. Along with KC Masterpiece BBQ they are kind of known for smothering everything in thick sauce. I've never been to the Freighthouse but I knew from the pic you had to be at one of those restaurants.

Sorry we missed connections. Be sure & clue me in next time!

I was a few days, very few indeed, in a place near the Tonale Pass that divides the regions of Trentino Alto Adige and Lombardy

With our friends who hosted us, we took long walks on paths of varying commitment, some easy, others were really challenging

We stopped at high altitude pastures for some sandwiches

I am attaching some photographs of the alpine landscape and one of your truly without a hat,

with a bandana to shelter from the air of high altitude.
It didn't work so much, I came back with a bit of fever and my throat was on fire.

Guardando bene Daniele.

Your Italian alps are gorgeous this time of year. I have only visited your mountains in the winter. I am so glad you shared the adventure as my neighborhood will be expecting hot and humid weather for a few days. I am cooling off to your pictures.

Sorry to hear about your throat and fever. Hope you recover fast. As to no hat, the altitude and effort make hat wearing difficult even for the passionate. I use a bandana and ball cap on occasion also.

Thanks for sharing. Eric -

Thanks Eric,
the Alps are a beautiful landscape, in some places splendid. For many years I had not visited these places where the border between the Hapsburg Empire and the Kingdom of Italy passed.
I also came to follow the trail of my grandfather who fought in the high altitude war for the Italian side here.
It was a very short and pleasant stay, the indisposition passed quickly, also because in the scorching heat everything becomes secondary to withstand the heat

We got up to Mezzocorona in Teroldego wine country, but that was in February and still pretty cold. I always thought the Teroldego and Lagrein reds were terribly underappreciated.

Thanks Doug to remember me the Italians wines:)
Mezzocorona remains further north than Mezzolombardo where we turned to reach Val di Sole.
Yes, there we are in the territory of Trentino red wines. Certainly the red wines of that territory are not much appreciated, but they have a very fierce competition starting from the end of the Val Lagarina where the wine territory of Verona begins. The discussion could continue, but we are here for the hats , however for any indication, suggestion or experience with Italian wines you can write to me in private.
