I arrived home in the final minutes of Saturday to find a box inside the door.
With my name on it?_

The 50s Stratoliner from illinois arrived, and it is as described, which only pointed out some small marks that might be stains. I opened the crown first to see if had the image of the crease it wore, and the classic OR cattleman was only mildly evident. A little wear on the reed ribbon, but the lining and leather look very good. Putting it on my head caused a bit of creaking though, so that can wait until I work on moisturizing the leather and the thread.

Behind me in the picture is something else that might require a little explaining.

Picked this one up yesterday. It has been sitting in that shop for some time now and it isn't my size.
Mayser panama boater in a size 58. Brim at 5,8cm and crown between 8,5 and 9cm. Not as stiff as a traditional boater would be, which can be seen best looking at the side and front views, where the weight of the hat makes the top bulge up somewhat on the hat stand. So quit flexible and a fun summer hat.

That is one fun looking modern boater, Stefan.

I like it a lot, but you know that already [emoji4]

German Stetson Premier "Windrose" Trilby / stingy-brim in Camel.
Probably 1960's.
I changed the original dark broad hat band against a brighter and thinner hat band.

That's a fantastic hat for that very 'everyman' look.

Nice.
I think you wear stingy brims better than anyone else who posts.

I tried again to shim the size of my shantung Panama OR this morning, gave up, and wore the more casual Reward to church.
After a while I took old run down OR for a stroll. If she had any flange out of the eBay box, that stretch to 7 1/8 made her look seriously in need of a girdle. The dramatic taper doesn't end at the break. It flows right into and through the flappy brim.
Eventually I got to the Strat. In her stall, there was grain and a brush and a groom. It's like, almost the same hat, but not the same hat at all!
Closer inspection did reveal that the reed, an organic one, was broken. The ferule was broken too, right where the reed would have been crimped on one side. I'll order some #85 plastic reed wire and try to use the old reed as a fish to pull new reed in.
Even with thd break in the reed, it's a too tight hat. I thought plug and play was here, but maybe not.

And my wife, Vicki, likes the watercolor print, and says it can hang above the piano!
That was an unexpected surprise.

I'm not a fan of boaters, but that one's a doozy!

Nice, Georg. The hat benefits from the narrower ribbon, I think.
