Moustaches-Yes or No

Hello Everyone,

I would like your opinions on moustaches. Presently I am teaching English in Vietnam and any facial hair is considered odd by the masses. What do you think?

Hahaha You may have a point. I just started it a week ago I guess it's better assessed after a few months.

Be patient, wait to see how it grows and then decide on a style. By that, I mean play with how you trim it. Sides long or short and wear it down to, or over, the lip. It's your visage there and it's up to you how you grown facial hair. I look at pics of me when I was 20 and think I looked stupid. Now, 43 years on, my wife and others have said I should never shave my beard and moustache. Confidentially, I think they mean the less of me on show the better. And, when it turns grey then white is the time to decide if you like it or not. The locals may think it strange but as long as there isn't any cultural offence caused then you have a talking point.
Most important for all wearers of facial hair - tomato ketchup and cheese sauce doesn't aid personal grooming, a bandanna for a handkerchief is a help.

Think like 60s - wear your hair with pride.

@pmjk In the pictures without the mustache, your lips appear relaxed. In the pictures with the mustache, your lips appear to be pursed a bit. If you are unconsciously pursing your lips, you may be projecting an image you don't mean to project.

For the rest, I agree with Clifton.

I didn't realise it until you mentioned it.However I can see it now. I have never worn a moustache before still feels a little odd.

I think it. looks good. I prefer the thin 1930s Clark Gable style which requires quite a bit more work than shaving

I say go with the moustache, but break yourself of the lip pursing. Moustaches are just like anything new you are wearing, you have to own it. If people notice you are looking self conscious about the 'stache, they are going to say something and it's usually something negative. I personally, couldn't grow anything approaching a 'stache until I hit my 40's. Since then I've had all sorts of styles. Now, I grow it out into a handlebar in the colder months, easier to style. In the warmer ones, I keep it about the length of Brad Pitts moustache in Inglorious Basterds. If you are someone who is very worried about what others think, shave it off. If you're growing it for you, rock it!

I had a mustache in high school and have had a full beard since 1978. Personally I like Clark Gables's mustache but I also like William Powell's mustache. It is something you need to grow into and experiment. I do not care for Sam Elliott's soup strainer

sure...had mine since the 70s. Sometimes it's trimmed neat and sometimes it's got a mind of it's own. I'd say this is somewhere in between.

I'm a yes! Had mine since I was 16 years old--shaved it once for my senior high school picture (which I hated), so I grew it back and had it since. A beard has come and gone a few times over the years, but the 'stache will be with me till the end--it's simply a part of me!!

Now I have seen some real moustaches. if I could grow one like Stringmaster and the others I would not have any doubts about keeping it.

Seriously though....at 18 i joined the Marines with a wisp of a mustache. An old salt with a bush stache told me you gotta let it grow out to thicken up.
It seems to have worked. Let it grow.

I've had mine since I was 26 and wanted to look older back then. I was getting my ID checked at the local (non-XXX) theaters.
Now I don't want to look older, but I am very used to it and would look odd without it.
My non-binding opinion is that you need to decide what sort of "look" fits both your face and mustache style.
In my case I look *exactly* like Theodore Roosevelt and that look fits me well.
Your face and mustache together look like a WWII fighter-pilot style. Among others, look up Thomas "Tommy" McQuire - second ranking US ace (38 victories) - who flew P-38's in the Pacific.
As "looks" go, you could do a LOT worse... I'd keep it and get used to it.
