Amazing - the Schott x Context CX113 was, in fact, what lead me to this purchase! So it's cool to "look into the future" and see how my leather might age. Thanks!
This is about 5 years old... I'm pretty sure yours is made from heavier leather, this is probably 3oz., yours looks heavier than that, but the color should be the same. I'm inspired by your jacket to get one made like yours, although I certainly don't *need* to, but I'm not sure what color I'd go with, maybe black, maybe not. But that natural is amazing and distinctive.

Someone elsewhere asked for an unboxing/lining shot, so here are a few more pics from the first few minutes of life for this jacket.

Black Watch (my old regiment) weathered light weight tartan lining.

Yep, that's among the top 3 jackets on TFL. Ever.

I cringed too when I saw you leaning on that brick wall, which only further reinforced my belief that leather just isn't for me. You're doing it right. That's how you're supposed to wear a leather jacket. Ultimately, that's why these things exist. If it was my jacket, I'd just baby it until the first spot I don't remember seeing right out off the box appeared, and then I'd cry for a week. Ugh...

But yeah, man. That jacket is something else.

Nice idea going for the "weathered" version; you don't see it so often, and I think it complements brown toned jackets better than the regular.

If it was my jacket, I'd just baby it until the first spot I don't remember seeing right out off the box appeared, and then I'd cry for a week.

Onyl happens with the first ding.... then you shrug, move on, and just wear it after that and notice less. That's when leather moves from 'new jacket' to 'old friend'. Eventually that first scrape will be an old friend - and, if you're lucky, a reminder of a fun night that provokes a wry smile every time you see it.... ;)

I bet I'm not the only one here who, when looking at the 'unboxing' photos, imagined that distinctive and alluring leather smell wafting forth and speaking of adventures promised wearing that new jacket!

Ah, the three finest smells in the world: new leather, old tweed, and the combustion of petrol in an old British motorcycle...

I just got it this Monday :p But it's been 30+ degrees Celsius and I've been wearing it anyway, so the heat and the sun is doing a number on it. It took actually just 2 days of wearing it in scorching weather for it not to hurt to bend my arms in it :D

that's really hardcore, RESPECT!

You sound like the perfect candidate for a white leather jacket!

Howdy folks,

So almost exactly a year after I got it, and having worn the jacket almost every day during the past year, including sleeping in it 2-3 times, here's the "aged" Mongrel! As you can see, I've a quarantine beard now, and added maybe a stone to my weight during said quarantine, too :D

A few thoughts and observations. First, I often wear a backpack, and I think that adds to the creases in the back--they look like hard creases; I love the KotR back, but if one wears a backpack, it's probably not the back to get--a straight smooth back without "flaps" might crease better. Second, I do like to have things in my pockets, and the jacket isn't as handsome with fully loaded, especially inside zip, pockets. Third, definitely need cord or whatever at the base of the liner, it's torn to heck because of my belt and the things that I wear on my belt. Fourth, I like the sleeves as the are, so I can check my watch by stretching my hand--I know that lots of people like to get longer sleeves. Length is pretty good, I'd consider shorter if I were to do a redo. Fifth, the break-in was fine and quick in last summer's heat, but it is a heavy jacket--it still feels like wearing armour, which is fine for 3 seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring), but it's not really a summer jacket ;)

Looks nicely broken in! It’s hard to see some CXL properly softened up but I believe you manage to complete the task successfully.

Is it comfortable when zipped up around the waist? Looks like it’s quite a tight fit from the back (last photo). My Hooch Hauler fits similarly and the tightness around the waist bugs me a little if I have to be completely honest.

The back does feel "baggy," i.e., the jacket pattern feels like an extreme triangle. You'll notice the creases around the chest area since the armpits are lower than my actual armpits, which makes for folds; likewise, the back is tight at the bottom (less so 1 stone of weight ago ;) ), and baggy at the top. It's kind of an "extreme man!" body that would best fit this pattern, huge chest and arms and a 32" waist or something :p.

So--yes, it's tightish at the waist and that makes it bunch up a bit. I still like it because of the work that I put into breaking it in :D But I think the pattern could be "loosened" to be less drastically triangular, i.e., less slim at waist, slimmer at the chest with higher arm holes.

Probably getting a type III soon, we'll see how that goes ;)

Kudos to you Feliksas for getting a new jacket and wearing the heck of it every day. That's the way to do it. I think the tight waist/baggy back look now may be due to your 1 stone weight gain tbh. The jacket looks much looser on earlier pics. Now the zipped jacket waist stops hard on your hips and bunches the back up. Not a criticism at all, just a statement of fact as I see it.

And hey this lockdown has made most of us have weight fluctuations. I know people whove lost a ton from stress or being home and trying to eat better and have the time to make healthy options. On the other hand I know a ton whove over eaten from stress and/or boredom, and gyms being closed. I personally have gained the Covid 5lbs haha. I tried on my Schott 618hh which is my smallest jacket. I have it simply for rock n roll looks, almost never zip it up....Well now I couldnt if I wanted to.

I will always accept the truth ;) Aye, the stone might have something to do with it :D Will send picks when I get it off, at the height of "pints every day because I work from home quarantine," I was *more* than a stone heavier :D But yes, wearing a new jacket every day is the way to go--in some strange sort of way, it's like being in a relationship with the garment, and really brings out who/what "it" really is. Thanks for the honest comment!
